Rappan Athuk is a con open gaming room style campaign. Object is just to “sit down” and have fun exploring a huge old style dungeon. This is a dungeon crawl with “pick up” characters and players. Different character every session? Fine. Can only commit to one session? Great.

I’m looking for 4-6 players a session. If you are free and just want to play some D&D this Saturday come join in the fun at the "granddaddy of all dungeons". The current character level is 5th.

Last session a frenzied howling ogre killed a party member. If you would like to strike a blow for good and deal be one of those to deal with this menace you can sign up for the game here (https://www.fouruglymonsters.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=35). If you are not a member of the forums at Four Ugly Monsters you will need to register.

Right now the group has a Clr3/Bgn3, Ftr5, Rog5. If you want to play tomorrow there's plenty of room.

Bagaduce, Linoleum, Mortis, Ivanes, Jaiskyr enter the shrine. A few minutes later, while heading down the stairs to the main mausoleum they are attacked by three green statues and several grey men burrowing up from under the ground. Things go poorly for the group with first Mortis being paralyzed and then others. Jaiskyr, pinned up against the fence is mortally wounded by a statue as he tries to back out of combat. Bagaduce is paralyzed, Ivanes is paralyzed. Linoleum fights on and is overwhelmed by 3 statutes and a grey man. Just as Linoleum goes down mortally wounded, Mortis shakes off the magic binding him and wades into the creatures.

Even his heavy armor and tower shield are not enough to totally protect him from the statues and grey man. But he swings his Bastard Sword and fights bravely - managing to destroy one statue while the claws, teeth, wings and horns of his opponents find small openings in his armor until his blood trickles over the plates and spikes of his full plate. Meanwhile Linoleum’s life blood slowly runs down the slope and pools near the walls of the mausoleum.

Bagaduce stirs from his own paralysis, casts Hide from Undead and then attacks the grey man next to Mortis. Mortis continues to fight the green statues as more and more of his blood stains his armor. After sticking the grey man twice Bagduce steps back and casts Aid on Mortis. Then after casting Protection from Evil, Bagaduce returns to attacking the grey man and eventually “kills” it. Seconds later, the badly wounded Ivanes stirs from his own paralysis and Lays his Hands on Mortis curing him up from critically wounded to “only” moderately wounded.

After curing Mortis, Ivanes attacks a statue and goes down a few seconds later from a slashing claw. But the tide has turned and Mortis and Bagaduce finish off the two remaining statures and then stabilize Ivanes and discover Linoleum is dead but Jaiskry has stabilized on his own. After some debate, the group pulls back to near where they were teleported in and waits out the remaining time, returning to the shrine with their dead and fallen comrades.

Whew, what a close fight! The PC’s have been doing too well lately I guess and wanted to make it interesting. ;p That was as close a fight as I have seen in a long time. After rolling miserably on their fort saves the party came back and won though not before poor Linoleum bled out. I’m still amped over that fight an hour and half later. 5th level characters earned 720 xp, 6th level earned 690 xp; each character made 625 gp.
