So, i bought the book from the FG store and im planning into this series of adventures... i started to plan and... theres a big downside for me... the black and white maps... i have no idea why they downgrade the maps... the previous adventures had amazing maps... last time i came into this issue i came here and did a quick search and there was some upgraded colored maps... but this time i cant find anything for ghosts of saltmarsh, can someone tell me if there is anything like around? Here or dmsguild... anywhere really

Not that I'm aware of.

Due to circumstances (Unity KS and other things) there wasn't time to do any colouring in for this one.

Also the maps aren't downgraded in any way; they're just a different take on fantasy mapping. I'm pretty sure that the cost for the artwork is no different from coloured ones.

WotC has been doing b&w maps for their last few published products (DoMM, WDDH, Saltmarsh). Someone there likes the aesthetics.

I suspect someone around here one of these days might make a color map pack for them. But hasn't happened yet.

Have you tried searching for "saltmarsh maps" on DMsGuild?

Yea, that's just what I did. Found 2 packs on the DMsG, though honestly I don't think either looks very promising;

But, Google did point me to an EnWorld thread. These maps were done for U1, but are recent and appear to be much better, imo (and they are free);

Hilariously, there is a post in the enworld thread asking for b/w versions. :D

Greetings,

I have some maps for U1 that I made in Dungeon Painter a while ago. I think it's ok to post these and if not, I'm sure the mods will take down.

Enjoy

Spoiler - don't look if you plan on being a player :)

Garth

Edit - I posted the same map twice - corrected.

Perfectly fine to post - there's no IP (names, artwork, etc.) in those maps.

Thanks for sharing!

We are looking into maybe doing something for this. Nothing is finalized yet. It might be part of a new offering we have.

Thumbs up from me. I wonder if WotC changed the maps due to the expense of commissioning artistic maps, or if it was just an aesthetic choice. I'm fine with either personally, but the sudden change without comment from WotC is interesting.

I DM in person (AL) pretty often and I really prefer the black and white maps. They are 100% cleaner and easier to sketch out to play. For FG, color maps do look better, but even there some don't look good. It really depends on the artist and their style. Some of the color maps in Storm Kings Thunder came out pretty muddy (I know that they were wroked on hard to be acceptable, they style are not crisp and look worse when zoomed in on).

For Saltmarsh, it is such an old and famous module that I got maps for it ages ago from fan efforts.
