Okay, I do not currently have a fantasy ground license.
If I back FGU I should back at the 135 newcomer ultimate.
That would make sense. However, I read that that would not give me access to fantasy grounds (classic). Right?
Doesn't it make more sense to purchase a fantasy grounds (classic) license for 149 and then back the kickstarter for Rookie ultimate 30?
Yes that would be 179, but I'd have access to both fgu and fg-classic.
Am I missing something?

Nope. That's the advantage of backing a KS.

WESeib,
Yes, that’s correct. If you want to use the current FG until FGU is released. You should pick up the license from the FG store, and back at the Rookie level for KS.

If you'll permit me one more question. If I purchase the books as an add on from the kickstarter, will they be available in both ?

I don't mean available for both. Will I have to buy the books in both or can I buy them in one and they will be available in both? I don't want to have to buy them twice.

You can buy them once, and use on both current FG as well as FGU.

You don't buy them twice - all of your purchased products will be available to you in FGC or FGU. Product purchases are tied to your Fantasy Grounds website login - so all you'll do is enter your username/password and all of your purchased products will be there (after you've updated/downloaded them).

Personally I would start a Sub for Ultimate for FGC, then switch everything over when FGU is released. It will probably be less than a one time charge for the Ultimate FGC.

If anyone plans to use Fantasy Grounds (whatever flavour) for a while then the subscription will cost you more in the long run. If you purchase FGC Ultimate now (or soon when there's a sale) and get the rookie upgrade in the Kickstarter you'll get a return on your purchase (compared to a subscription) in less than 18 months, and you'll get access to both FGC and FGU at the ultimate level, get Kickstarter goodies, etc.. Unless you're only planning on running a game for a short time, in the long run a subscription is money down the drain (IMHO).
The advantage of the subscription is that people can try it for a couple of months and move on if they don't like it without too much of an up-front outlay, or if someone is going to GM for short time. Or if the initial up front cost is too steep (there are some pay over time options in PayPal to help with this).

As far as I can see it will be more doing it that way. Also doing it that way means you no longer have access to FGC after you stop your sub.
