Just curious since I missed the news there is a FG con this weekend.

I wanted to ask if there was an updated and current list of this years online conventions so I can plan ahead?

Future FG Cons and FG Daze are not yet scheduled. If you subscribe to the last/current thread announcements (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?47906-FG-Con-14-Friday-April-12th-Sunday-April-14th-2019) it will usually be updated when the next FG Con is announced. Otherwise you ahve to watch the sub-forums https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?94-FG-Con-%96-Fantasy-Grounds-Virtual-Convention and https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?97-FGDaze
Or watch the FG Con website for the next announcement; https://www.fg-con.com/

FG Con is most likely to fall on the second weekend of April and October each time. It has occasionally been on the third weekend.
It is on that particular weekend mostly because of the timing of daylight savings changes...

I will say that the second weekend in April often keeps me from playing or DMing that one. April 15th is Tax Day in the US. And since I procrastinate, I'm always doing taxes instead of playing. Don't know if that impacts the numbers of other players or GMs though.

There is approx 15 weeks or 100 days between the start of the year and FG Con... just saying :)

Hey, I admit I procrastinate! I'm doing it right now rather than itemizing my deductions *G* Don't know if it impacts others or not, but just thought you would want to be aware of one reason that might impact turnout, if your are not already.

There’s also FGDaze, a one-day minicon twice per year in Jan-ish and July-ish.

You know it’s a good point that other online cons happen throughout the year too and could be a way for FG play to have a presence. Could be a worthwhile schedule to compile, for those who are doing too much already / I mean one of us others could step up.

Well I never procrastinate and would never make use of an extension or anything like that

There’s always a couple of people who say "I couldn’t make it because of..."

You’re the second person to mention US tax day this year. We’ve basically been running the April FG Con on this weekend for 4 years now and it’s the first time anyone's mentioned anything.

So what you are saying is "there's plenty of time to plan ahead". ;) Hope to host a game for the next FG Con!

A Doctor Who game? I'm in! As long as it doesn't fall on Thanksgiving.

Then keep on doing so. I'm only one little data point. Hopefully next year I will be down in Feb when I should be!

FGDaze can happen in the summer.

Here’s a start of a listing of other online cons, some of which may take FG games:

Unfortunately pretty much all other online cons as a default require roll20 as the VTT. I imagine it could change if there is enough player/GM interest though.

I shot Jackercon a note just now to find out. There's also "Fear the Boot" con in the summer.

I just asked concerning Cosmic Crittercon (their default description stated "All games will be run on Roll20, with voice chat over Discord."). It is indeed possible to run games on FG but the immediate reponse was "You won't be able to find any players."

If you have an ultimate license, I doubt that is true. I've run into the same mindset with other cons, and in the end as long as you communicate with the players, it works out.

Yes, that has been my experience as well. Apart from that I'm pretty sure I can fill a game by asking regular or semi-regular players. But the consensus among people unfamiliar with FG still seems to be that because no one has used FG in that particular con so far that means no one will use it in the future.

We are at war with Eastasia because we have always been at war with Eastasia.

Maybe it can be a "here's a chance to try out a new game, a new platform, and meet new players." Although some won't try new things, others might.

EDIT: Jackercon wrote back: "I can change the wording slightly but as it stands the website itself is built to be generic allowing GM's to run on any platform they choose. I think hangouts and roll20 are mentioned as they have been used most in the past. ...Feel free to join the discord where more frequent discussions are had."

Stay tuned...
