Interested in how other DMs track temporary changes in Max HP, such as during wraith attacks, on the fly without losing track of what the original HP max was.

I thought about using negative temp points but my test failed to show that it would make a character unconscious at the correct time. I'll try it again. It makes sense though. Just apply the damage as neg temp hp rather than wounds if they fail their save. Then later when they take regular wounds this will calculate with whatever neg temp hp there are and make him unconscious if it gets him to zero.

I just remembered there is an extension for 5e vitality points that causes a temporary loss of max hp. If you are not afraid of digging into it you might be able to figure out what the maker did and/or convince them to tweak the extension.
