Hi,

I'm interested in playing the role of the DM and the player characters at the same time. Is this possible with a standard Fantasy Grounds liscense and if so
would I have to run multiple instances of the client on the same computer or another?

Thanks.

Yes, you can run one instance as GM and have second instance connected to localhost. Will work with the Standard edition.

But... Solo play? :O
Unless you have a module for solo-play, like one that I can't recall the name now for Call of Cthulhu, I can't imagine what you will do :)

Yes its possible. Several folks on the forum here have posted their experiences doing so and from what I remember they enjoy it. You do generally need some sort of ruleset or module that is tailored for it or helps support it.

Such as if you are playing D&D 5E, how do you know what to fight next or what goals your character has? Well, if you have a solo module (like one of these; https://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?keywords=solo&filters=0_0_0_0_0_0_45545_0&x=0&y=0&author=&artist=&pfrom=&pto=) or the random tables from the DMG, then you can build a quest and the encounters as you go. Of course you have to have rules or an approach for how to play the NPCs right? What tactics do they use, what are the rooms shaped like? etc. For reference, I would look at games like 'Wrath of Ashardalon' and 'Descent' to see some ways to handle such.

Just do everything from the GM instance of the client.

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. I think I will purchase a license today.

Search in DriveThroughRPG for ‚Party of 1‘ and Pathfinder. Those are Solo adventures, however not converted to FG.

Hey, I do solo play sometimes in Fg. If you want to get into the solo scene you should look into The Mythic game master emulator. It's pretty much the gold standard most of us solo roleplayers use. You can find at drive thru for a few measly bucks. There are plenty of other supplements made by the same author all of which can be used with the Game to enhance solo play. I would suggest just getting and maybe the two mythic varatins supplements to start though. Happy gaming!

When I mentioned solo play I didn't mean running a solo pc but a group of pc's and playing the dm role as well. Damned mentioned I can just do everything from the dm client. So I should
be able to pull this off. I did download the Mythic game master emulator but haven't really delved into it yet. It looks interesting and gets good reviews.
