Good afternoon,

I am writing this post as I was recently made aware of FG. A long time ago I used to play AD&D PnP and then life got in the way. I stopped playing PnP but always have fond memories of it. I played some PnP last fall with D&D 4th edition but the group went to play something else. Story for another time.

Over the week end me and a few friends have purchased the game and we would like to start some sessions. The only issue is that none of us are really familiar with FG and watching vids just don't seem to cut it when it comes time to creating characters and such. Don't get me wrong, Digital DM seems to know his stuff but we were wondering if there is anyone out there willing to perhaps hop on my Teamspeak server to assist me and my buddies on proper character creation, helping with the DM tools and even run us through a campaign (it could be a one-shot game) so that we can have a better grasp at Fantasy Grounds. One thing to note also is that we are new to 5E and have basic knowledge of D&D.

A little about us, all of us are 30+ and some are Eastern Timezone and some Pacific timezone. We all work and have families, we are long time gamer buddies and just want to get back into D&D.

In order to make this work we would have to do it on a Friday or Saturday night at 6 EST or later.

Thank you for taking time to read this, I am looking forward from hearing from someone,

Yours truly,
A hopeful future member of the Fantasy Grounds community,

Welcome!

I don't have time, but their is a FG Discord Server here; https://discord.gg/VKbhkSt

And the FG College (totally free, totally friendly!) server here; https://discord.gg/Ew6nYyw

Both have channels you can drop in and see if anyone is available to jump on. Also with FGC you can take free classes on character creation, getting started, DMing, etc.

Thank you @ LordEntrails,

I will look into this.

Safe Travels,

Those two resources are really the best. But also joining a game that is newb friendly as a player is a great way to learn. And really, just dive in and try. You won't break anything. ^.^

In addition to what others have said, the FG manual has a pretty good walkthrough for creating 5E characters starting on Page 53.

https://www.fantasygrounds.com/filelibrary/FantasyGroundsUserManual.pdf
(This can always be accessed via the Help menu on the main FG site.)

Oh, and I totally forgot, your timing is pretty good. Next Saturday is FG Daze, a one day con that's totally free. Check out the FG Daze threads in the LFG sub-forum. Several one-shot games there you can look to join.

I would recommend checking out fantasygroundscollege.net. It's a great group of volunteers dedicated to helping folks learn Fantasy Grounds. They also have a discord channel here https://discord.gg/Ew6nYyw

Thank you all for the feedback and suggestions. The community here is great so far. I have taken a few of your suggestions and have already looked into the FG College. I will also look at the mentioned FG Daze. (I think we even found a group with is pretty exciting!!!)

A community like this one is the reason why I enjoyed D&D so much back in the day.

Sincerely,
Venom,
