Custom domains? Do I still need PAR5E?

If I just want to add a domain, and not re-create the Cleric class, is there a way to do so?

Is my best bet making a copy of the PHB Cleric (I also have Xanathar's Cleric), and adding the Specialization and Domain Features there?.

As noted on the second video on that link, yes. You need the entire class. You can’t have archetypes in a vacuum; they must be attached to a class. I usually recommend using the classes out of the SRD as your base but you can use the PHB ones too.
