I was gifted an Amazon gift card. Is there any roundabout-but-above-board way to purchase a Fantasy Grounds subscription with it?

Hello kleefaj, welcome to FG.

The only way to pay for a subscription is via PayPal. FG isn't available via Amazon so I suspect that there isn't a way to use your card in that way I'm afraid.

Is there any relationship between Steam and Fantasy Grounds? I think I can buy a Steam gift card on Amazon and then maybe pay for FG that way?

Yes, you can buy FG on Steam. But not subscriptions. Subscriptions are only available via the FG store. You can buy the license outright rather than a subscription on Steam and you can buy all of the DLC - but not subscriptions.

What's the difference between a license and a subscription? URL to the FAQ?

There are two ways to buy a license;
1) You can buy a one-time license. This license is a one-time cost and you don't have to pay again until a new major versions comes out (like Office 2003 versus Office 2013).
2) You can pay a monthly subscription fee. This mean you always have access to the latest version of FG, but you have to pay ever month or you loose access to FG.

A license allows you to use the application outside of Demo mode. Their is a Standard license which allows other standard license holders to join your game, and their is the Ultimate license, which allows Demo users to join your game.

Their is a new version of FG in development, but their is no ETA when it might be available. It might be in 3 months, it might be in 3 years. More info on it here (stickied int eh forum your post is in)
