I love D&D, and I hate too sound dumb, but do you get the host address from whoever is DMing the game, or what I really want to play if someone could help me out without being to mean. thanks

Yes, the host(DM) gives out his IP or his Server Alias. And password if he chooses to have one.

The host-adress is generated by the one that is GMing when he starts the program. The GM then has to share the host-name or his IP-adress with all the players.
