Is there a common folder where I can place maps for Random Encounters and such in the Fantasy Grounds installation folder? I have such folders for tokens and PC portraits, but can't seem to find the same thing for Maps.

There isnt a common folder, but what you can do is to create a campaign with all of the maps you want in it, then export that to a module. this makes it easy to load/unload those maps whenever you want.

You dont want to add all your maps to all your campaigns...

I just have a regular Windows Folder, and browse that with the folder view set to Large icons. Then I copy and paste any map I want for a random Encounter into the campaign map folder (opened from the Images list) when I need it.

As mentioned, you don't want all of your maps in every campaign, just like you don't want every token in every campaign (use token modules, not the shared token folder).

You can also drag/drop maps onto the FG desktop and they will be copied into the maps/images folder and become available to use.

Drag/drop images to the maps/image window - dragging to the FG desktop won't copy them into the campaign.

You can easily create a map module externally to FG using some routines I have written:

Extract images from a PDF: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?40832-How-To-Extract-Images-From-A-PDF

Create a Map Module from images in a folder: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?42532-FG-Map-Module-Generator

Hope these topics help....

Okay, so I'll use the images directory in the campaigns I'm using.

Let me ask the opposite question then. Is there a folder I can put tokens in that is specific to a campaign as opposed to using the application level folder?

See the Wiki page on tokens for all of your options. Here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Tokens#Loading_Locations
