Now that I have a connection, I load the game interface and click on Load Demo Campaign. This takes me through several screens, with no instructions on what I need to do, then loads a blank page.

Stuck again!!

For using the demo - when you start FG, click on "Load Demo Campaign" and select "5E Sample Campaign" and click "Start". Once FG loads up, click the "Story" button in the right sidebar and select "00 Welcome to Fantasy Grounds". This is the first entry, read this and navigate to the next with the "Next" shield link at the bottom of the Story window or the left-right arrows in the story window footer.

I would also recommend reading through or watching some of the videos - there are links available on the front page of FG when you first load it up - click the little red squares (these are FG links).

Hi Divetrucker, and Welcome! to the Community,

If you haven't done so already, let me encourage you to take a look at some of the great Tutorial Videos available on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (and on YouTube). Damn's are good, as are Xorn's, and people seem to like mine as well (mine are also available from the links in my sig, below).

Start with the ones on the CoreRPG, because the CoreRPG forms the foundation of just about all the RPGs we play with Fantasy Grounds - so by learning how to use FG with the CoreRPG you'll learn about 80% of what you'll need to know to play any RPG with Fantasy Grounds. Once you've gone through the CoreRPG Videos you can then go on to Videos about your chosen RPG.

When you get familiar with the basic Fantasy Grounds product the next step is to check out some of the Extensions (Plug-Ins) for FG, such as the DOE: Sound (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?31369-DOE-Sound-Extension), DOE: Locations (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20794-DOE-Locations-Extension), DOE: Weather (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?22142-DOE-Weather-Extension) and DOE: Organisations (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27169-DOE-Organisations-Extension) Extensions (to name a but a few - and a Shameless™ Self Plug).

You may also want to drop into the FG College (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?40020-Join-Fantasy-Grounds-College-Learn-Fantasy-Grounds-learn-D-amp-D-and-then-play!); a great place for newcomers to get started.

And of course, there's plenty of Twitch Channels where you can watch games in progress (including my own - https://www.twitch.tv/dulux_oz - another Shameless™ Self Plug).

And keep on asking questions - we're a pretty friendly lot here, and we love answering questions.

Cheers

Thanks Dulux-Oz, that is very helpful.
There are so many guides and videos that it is very difficult to know where to start. Some of the videos are not very well presented (getting into all sorts of trivial details like how to rearrange the windows and change the colour of the dice) and many are badly out of date.
The demo campaign is also poorly presented and difficult to follow. What I need (and I am sure there are many other like me) is a guide that shows how a simple scenario would be played, and then goes on the explain how to set up everything to make it happen, without getting bogged down in details.

You are not going to learn how to set up everything without getting into details.
Similar to a roleplaying game that has hundreds of pages of reference material there is a lot to learn if you want to use it all.
The User Guide https://www.fantasygrounds.com/filelibrary/FantasyGroundsUserManual.pdf is another good place to start.
Many videos are out of date - the application is updated multiple times a year - but most core concepts are the same or similar.

Start with the Demo campaign.
Open the first entry and use the left/right buttons to work your way thru.
If you have specific questions we can help.

I would start with the Digital Dungeon Master's "Fantasy Grounds For Beginners Tutorials (https://www.youtube.com/user/dave32780/playlists)" video series. You can probably skip the 1st one which is mainly focuses on comparing Roll20 & Fantasy Grounds and a few of the others. Just scroll through the list and see what topics interest you. He has a ton of other videos outside that list I would also recommend scrolling though and checking out as well.

He did another great video after he joined the FG Team and you can see that one at Fantasy Grounds For Beginners -- Let's Take A Tour Complete Tour Of The Fantasy Grounds Program (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW2Y45Bjwpo&t=1084s).
