I have looked throughout the forums for his question and don't quite think I found an answer. I also hope I am posting this in the right place as this seemed the best forum?
I want to use Fantasy Grounds for my home game and I have three laptops and a desktop to run things on. I am going to use one laptop for planning my campaign and then the desktop to run it. Yes, I know I will have to transfer the campaign, that is not the question. First, I want to make sure that I can be running multiple demo versions of the game at once that I have downloaded and installed. I know this cannot be done with other editions of the software without making multiple purchases. I don't see why it wouldn't work but wanted to check. Second, I also want to make sure that one of those laptops can have the Ultimate edition installed as well as a demo edition. I would be using the ultimate to make the campaign and then on game night let a player take over that laptop and run the demo version so I can run the ultimate edition on my desktop.
Does that all make sense? Thanks everyone, I am really excited to hopefully try this in the near future, especially with Fantasy Grounds Unity on the horizon :)

you cannot install 2 clients on the one computer - it doesnt work without editing the registry each time you switch
you can install your license on 2 computers providing that you only use one at a time - they will not be able to connect to each other
to join the prep machine to the game machine on game night you would need to remove the license key and run the updater
that does mean all your DLC will have to redownload next time you reverse that process.

Fantastic, thank you so much for the info. I may have to tweak what I am doing for my own sanity ;)

And if you change licenses in use on the same computer, you will have to redownload all the content applicable to the license using the 'update' button.

It seems like I remember Moon Wizard once saying that if you start up the computer with different accounts that you could have different licenses on each different user account, but I cannot locate that post anywhere.

In theory you can - as the registry data is stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER (the registry details of the currently logged in Window user). However, you would still need to run an update each time you logged in with a different Windows user to ensure the correct version and data associated with the currently active license key is downloaded.

Maybe you could save the contents of the data folders and manually restore them when you change accounts so as to avoid the downloads. The good news is that it should be pretty quick on all but your main account with all the content.

You can have a licensed and demo version client on the same computer, I used to use a demo version to precache files and send them to players while I was on adsl. (So i could upload 140MB once, rather than seven times at 100KBps)
It is a hassle, but it does work.
You need two install directories and you need to remove the licence and change to the demo directory every time you want to update the demo and re apply the license and change to the licensed directory every time you want to update the licensed version.

Yes, it is a hassle, I've done it before. All it takes is forgetting which version you're on and you may end up losing some data, or wasting a lot of time, or being on the wrong version when you want to be on another version, etc.. It's possible, but it's not supported and it's pretty much up to you to make sure you know what you're doing and don't make a mistake.

It is a little harder to screw up if you have to log on as a different user. That would be better than trying to do two installs on same user.

What I've done is simple create a virtual machine with FG installed as a demo user. No need to worry about any conflicts etc. Sure, it uses a bit more hardware resources, but, no download times, no conflicts, no corruption etc.

This has all been very useful. Thank you everyone for the info and suggestions. I am still kinda testing the waters with Fantasy grounds before taking the plunge but it is a tad difficult to really test out without spending some money :S It does look amazing and seems that once you do the necessary ground work that it may be well worth it, if I can get my players to buy in . . .

If you buy from the website here there is a 30-day money back guarantee. Steam I think is 2-4 hours of playtime.
