How does everyone handle in-game music and sound effects?

I am looking at testing Fantasy Grounds in a few weeks and want to be ready.

Welcome to the forums.

FG does not natively have sounds or voice chat. Most people that use sounds use the community developed DOE: Sounds extension (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?31369-DOE-Sound-Extension). Or simple use Teamspeak or Discord and their own sound management apps to stream sounds through their voice software. If you search the forums you will find lots of threads and specific instructions and discussions for using different software and setups.

I am using VoiceMeeter audio mixer to add music and sounds to Discord/Skype during sessions. Works wonderful even without paying for the extra Audio A and B cables.
DOE Sounds Extension is convenient if you use Syrinscape.

Not just Syrinscape (although it was written with Syrinscape in mind) but any 3rd party Sound Stsrem controllable via URL :)

Yeah DOE Sound Extension works well with soundcloud as well. I have been setting it up for my campaigns this past week. I really like using it. I have used Discord Music Bots in the past. https://discordbots.org/tag/music

It is nice to have that ambient sounds and music for your players.

Stream artists like Midnight Syndicate and Nox Arcana.

And, for background music, look for games on GOG.com that include the tracks as MP3s. You can get some great, atmospheric background music for a few $$. For example, for $5 you can get 80-odd background music tracks from this game: https://www.gog.com/game/neverwinter_nights_diamond_edition

Trenloe put together a great list. Here are some more:
Sword Coast Soundscapes https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUGy8GD5oY4EX9awX4FSqBw
The Guild of Ambience https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvVWCrxq_aZr7fN_KpaGGTA

These are youtube channels but great for background ambience that you can start and leave running.

If it's background music you're after, I'll offer a look at part of my collection for inspiration. Most of it is from iTunes, some CDs from Amazon, some complementary soundtracks from Gog.com

In addition to the above, I've been making good use of soundbible.com (https://soundbible.com/) with chatsound triggers that just play in Windows Media Player to add sounds I don't already have access to via Syrinscape.

Sorry to ress this one, but can you teach me how to use soundcloud with DOE: Sound?

Tabletop Audio’s main page is good for ready-made music/ambience tunes, but they have a very kewl Beta Sound Maker with a tonne of one-off sound board sounds.
I use it especially for combat - in particular for shooting missile weapons, whether for a Bow or Throwing Axe(used for Sling, too!).
