Is there any way to share chat information within the game with a player who logs in late, so that they can see what has transpired prior to their logging in? If not, where is the appropriate forum to make suggestions for improvements to the base game these days?

Cheers!

There is a file called chatlog in your campaign directory I think that has a running record

The file is called "chatlog.html" You would have to email it to them or otherwise send it to them and then they are going to have to read through it. IMO, it's just faster to take 2 minutes to give a quick summary and then get to playing.

They can always read the log after the session. Or you could record it with something like OBS and they could watch the video later.

To make suggestions, you can browse and enter new ones on the wishlist; https://fg2app.idea.informer.com/

If it is like a story entry or a few short things that were posted before they came in you can just drag them out of chat and then drop them back in and it will repost them automatically for you. Kind of like you do the dice when you want to show your rolls to the players. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies! I'm aware of the chatlog, but we were hoping for something within the context of the game, itself. The drag-n-drop is a good suggestion, though somewhat cumbersome. The problem was that there had been half an hour of fairly intense role-playing, primarily by chat (rather than voice) and while the 2 minute summary helped, the player missed some key points of what had gone on that might have altered his actions later in the game. Thanks for the suggestions link, Lord Entrails! I'll go see if anyone's made this one and post.

Cheers!

If you post, you need to be specific in what you expect. Honestly, I cannot imagine how anything better than the chatlog could be done. You can copy the relevant portions of the chatlog and paste easier than many screens of the chat window, but I'd submit that would just clog your chat (and duplicate it in the chat log) anyway. So, I really cannot see how a feature request could be useful, but maybe I'm just not seeing something?

Easy example: What if rather than focusing on combat stats extracted from chatlog.html (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?37768-Campaign-Game-Statistics&highlight=chatlog.html) if the file was parsed into the actual chat/roleplay stuff (and optionally include the combat rolls) and posted as a blog-style entry? Then you just give your players the URL and everyone can keep up-to-date on what has happened in the chatlog each session.

There is a "chat log scrubber" around here somewhere that can remove all the rolls and such. But of course, that assumes you are gaming using chat and not voice... Since if you use voice most role playing will be done with audio...

One of our players actually takes the chatlog and does that, but that doesn't help during the game session. Though, after reading Bidmaron's post, it makes sense that you wouldn't want to double the size of the chat for everyone other than the person who was late. However, it would be possible for another player, DM or not, to copy the chat up to that point and paste it into a note, which could then be shared with just the missing player. Given that solution is much more effective than re-sharing an un-owned entity, I will remove the suggestion from the list.

Cheers!

edit: this won't work, either - there's no way to select and copy the whole chat, just individual entries. :(

Does that still work? It was becoming problematic back before 3.0 released and I didn't think anyone had been updating it.

Does what still work? The chat log scrubber? Don't know. But given what it does (parse xml for certain strings) it should be easy to update if it doesn't.
