Part of it may be time of year as well. Summer, kids are out of school, so less time for some in front of the computer.

big mostly undefined changes coming to AL season 8 too. Some people are extremely hesitant and may be waiting. They are moving to a system similar to whats presented in Xanathar and haven't revealed any details on how that will work, what happens to existing PCs, and DM XP.

From what I see season 8 leveling seem to be way more easy, 4 adventure/DDEX and you will be lv1>lv5, it use to take at least twice the amount of adventure to reach lv5.....
Well, at least now we have much more magic item to buy from potion and spell scroll lv1-lv5(very useful for wizard spell book)

Also doesn't help that around this time last year if I remember correctly, AL DMs were getting the adventures for free, and also getting FG modules of them in most cases. Now it's more of a pain in the wallet to get all the adventures, and you cannot share FG modules of them so a lot more work to run them online.

Still, I know it contributed to my stopping of running AL games.

On the plus side, if you already grabbed any of the adventures from DMsGuild.com that later added a Fantasy Grounds module, then you got that for free alongside the PDF.
