Details of your scenario:Rumors have spread of a villainous drow calling himself the Black Spider terrorizing the north eastern coast of The Forgotten Realms. As days went by, it seemed like his power and influence was only growing until one day it seemed to have completely stopped. Some say that he's building up to do something big, others say that heroes have arisen to set the world right. The former, however, seemed to have been the more correct as a Blood Moon appeared high in the sky one night. Ever since then, unknown creatures have been terrorizing different cities. Of note, a large crazed owl was reported to be terrorizing town after town, seemingly heading its way to the forests containing the Grandfather Tree. Phandalin, the town that the Black Spider had last been reported to be near, has been ravaged by attack after attack. This may seem normal for Phandalin, if it were orcs attacking, but these creatures seem to be not of this world. Those in power have begun making their moves for whatever may come. The Lord's Alliance has heavily recruiting soldiers and the Mages of the Enclave have been consulting for several weeks without any of the higher ranked mages being seen to have left the consulting room. It seems that the Forgotten Realms will be changing, that a new age may be coming. Hopefully, the Forgotten Realms will be all but forgotten.

Key Notes:

Death is always possible
Players are allowed to attack each other GIVEN that they have a proper reason
Either Point-Buy or Roll 4d6 drop lowest 1. Once you roll on discord, you must keep rolls. Rolls made outside Discord will not be used
Back-up character's start off 2 levels below the group's average level
Just like the real world, some people you meet will try to steal, cheat, and con you. You can choose who you want to believe and who you don't.
The players act as their characters. As such, they do not always perform optimally. Min/maxers and people that try to full on advise other characters on how best to play their characters would not do well here. Rule of thumb, if you think your character would do it, even if its sub-par, its more fun if you act sub-par than optimally.
We do a lot of variant rules and the rule of cool does apply here. If you are looking to play strictly by the books, I'm sorry, but that's not how this game, in particular, goes.

All the players have started off new, and as such some are still learning a few things here and there. With that, newcommers are more than welcome to join! We don't mind teaching you and helping you get started; whether you're just learning how to play effectively to you have no clue how to make a character sheet, it makes no matter. Some of the guys in the group started off this campaign on the "difficulties making a character sheet" so if you're interested but afraid you don't have enough experience, cast those fears aside.

As such, I would like to know some about you such as your experience with Dungeons and Dragons in general, your experience with 5e more specifically, a little about yourself, what kind of character you were thinking of bringing to the table, what you enjoy about games, and anything else you think might be useful knowledge! As for party composition, there is currently a bard, rogue, warlock, and druid. Our monk had to leave due to life issues, which is why we now have an open slot.

DO NOT feel the need to go fighter/paladin/cleric/any type of tank if you don't think you'd have the most fun as those classes. This game is laid back (even with the death, we try and have fun with it), and we all play to have fun. Even so, has been successful throughout their whole time playing without someone being a tank! So, to reiterate, just let me know which class you feel like you'd have the most fun in.
