Hey everyone!

I discovered FG rather recently and with all the officially licensed content available for purchase saving the time of inputting data I'm committed to making the plunge on an ultimate license and getting my DM on.

So I'm wondering on what's worth buying and what is not so worth it. Assuming I go with Storm Kings Thunder for the first campaign, I'd like to have an appropriate array of preprogrammed options for character building and so on but would prefer not to buy overlapping content or aesthetically enhanced packages of the same rules/features. There's an overwhelming amount of DLC out there and as a tabletop player making the plunge it's hard to know of hand when what I'm looking at is a cheap and comprehensive library of drag and dropable content critical for gaming without hours of manual input or an enhanced pdf of the book I already own.

So if I wanted to start up Storm Kings Thunder what supplemental material would have the best bang for the buck as far as increasing player options and minimizing input time without buying the entire DLC library?

Thanks ahead of time for your advice!

Hi FriendBesto, and Welcome! to the Community,

No a direct answer to your question, but hopefully useful never-the-less:

If you haven't done so already, let me encourage you and your group to take a look at some of the great Tutorial Videos available on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (and on YouTube). Damn's are good, as are Xorn's, and people seem to like mine as well (mine are also available from the links in my sig, below).

Start with the ones on the CoreRPG, because the CoreRPG forms the foundation of just about all the RPGs we play with Fantasy Grounds - so by learning how to use FG with the CoreRPG you'll learn about 80% of what you'll need to know to play any RPG with Fantasy Grounds. Once you've gone through the CoreRPG Videos you can then go on to Videos about your chosen RPG.

When you get familiar with the basic Fantasy Grounds product the next step is to check out some of the Extensions (Plug-Ins) for FG, such as the DOE: Sound (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?31369-DOE-Sound-Extension), DOE: Locations (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20794-DOE-Locations-Extension), DOE: Weather (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?22142-DOE-Weather-Extension) and DOE: Organisations (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27169-DOE-Organisations-Extension) Extensions (to name a but a few - and a Shameless™ Self Plug).

You may also way to drop into the FG College (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?40020-Join-Fantasy-Grounds-College-Learn-Fantasy-Grounds-learn-D-amp-D-and-then-play!); a great place for newcomers to get started.

And keep on asking questions - we're a pretty friendly lot here, and we love answering questions.

Cheers

Welcome FriendBesto

The Players Handbook.
If you want the additional options in Xanathers or Modenkainens then get those.
Otherwise everything else you need is in the STK module.

Get the players handbook for sure. I like the storm king module that's what I'm going through now. The PHB will make your life so much easier. Everything else is extra fluff. But good Fluff.

Thanks for the input guys! Eventually I'm sure I'll pick up most of the handbooks and supplimentals but it helps a lot to be able to plan an entry package that won't break the bank.
