I am looking through the myriad of different types of headsets to use while playing FG. Can anyone make some recommendations? Don't want cheap, but also don't want to take out a loan either.
Any input would be appreciated. At this point I will just be a player as I'm just getting started. Hope to DM in the future if that makes a difference.
Thanks

My first one of these lasted over 4 years, I just bought a second one, first still works, just ear pads horribly frayed. Don't let the price fool you, I have recommended this to many players, none have reported problems, and the range is about 200 feet.

I use these.

HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SAYCXWG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

They are VERY comfortable and are also "closed back" which means, they have limited background noise. I had issues with most of the other headsets I tried hearing background noise in my room, like a fan or kids watching TV in the background. These cut out a lot of it (not all by any means) but it makes things better.

I'm also not a fan of wireless. Battery issues drive me nuts. Going out in middle of games... quality has never been that great for the ones I tried either (various versions of logitech).

These also let you disconnect the mic and USB connection and plug into your phone (assuming your phone has a headset jack these days, NOT iphone).

I think they have a new version out now.

I'll endorse celestian's choice. I use those as well.

Third celestian's choice. I love those headphones.

I am using Skype for Business certified headsets from Jabra or Planctronics, because they provide great clarity in addition to the most important factor - they are super light. Gaming headsets are either too heavy for prolonged (think several hours) usage and sometimes isolate you too much from the outside world for your own good. :)

I am currently having Jabra UC Voice 550a and my players are quite happy with the clarity of my voice and lack of noises.

I use the Astro a40. Really love it. I bought it for use with my PS4 for an MMO almost 2 years ago and it's still going strong. Previous headset was a turtle beach stealth 500p. DO NOT RECOMMEND, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Had 3 of those, ALL broke in the exact same way, a crack in the headband in the EXACT same place, within a matter of months. Astro a40 however, FAR more durable, and far better. Sound quality is far and away better. Well worth the price. For a headset that will actually last. lol

EDIT: It was turtle beach, not logitech, where did that come from? Ugh need more coffee lol. Recommend avoiding turtle beach in general at all costs. Cheap crap.

So I used this headset last night for 3 hours on FG and I was constantly adjusting it because it was hurting my ears after a while. I love the wireless ability and the clarity, it worked great, but as far as comfort, it was uncomfortable. Maybe I just have too big of ears for this set. Glad it was cheap. Any other suggestions? Does it need to break in?

I did notice when I purchased the new set that is fit tighter than the set I had been using 4 years, so it does appear to stretch over time. Other than setting the headband adjustment to max, and if you do that I recommend reinforcing it with electrical tape, a tip I picked up in reviews when I bought the first set in 2014. I have trouble with any kind of headset because I wear glasses,if the pressure does bother me I just slip them off to wear on just one ear to redistribute the pressure. Nor do I know if there are anything on the market like extra cushioning for headset earphones.

I'm going to try to make something work (memory foam pieces?) because the performance of the headset is really good. Thanks

Just got the SteelSeries Arctis 7. Worn it for all of 3 minutes. Exceptionally comfortable. Will let you know sound etc later. Really do like the retractable mic.

If you Aussies didn't hang upside down on the bottom of the world maybe your head wouldn't swell so much?

But how do you get the mic to work properly with all those tentacles in the way damned?

Oh I really only need the headset to hear my players as none of them have yet developed telepathy.
I thought about teaching them but I found so many interesting things inside their heads I began to wonder if it would be prudent allowing them into mine...

I'm looking at this headset myself. Glad it's working out for you, now I just need to convince myself to click the "Buy Now" button on Amazon.

I wear a 7 and 3/4 hat. If you want comfort, get the one I pointed to. It works well for fat heads ;)

I have had an Arctis 7 for over a year now. Sometimes can make the ears sore, but very comfortable to wear - and the 2 channel audio is great.

My experience is that tinny sound is usually do to a cheap area mic and/or the room in which the person is in is small with lots of hard surfaces. Thing like using a speaker phone type mic and speaker. Unless they are very good.

Any decent headset mic (even $20 sets) are usually much better than room speaker/mic combos.
