I was wondering, if I purchase the full version of this program and host a game, do all of my friends also have to purchase a copy of the program to take part in the game, or can I simply host the game and have whoever join in?

Every player needs at least a Lite Licence.

As joeru said, anyone hosting needs the full version. Players need the lite version and someone with the full version can also be a player.

Because there is no upgrade between the lite and full version anyone who thinks they might DM in the future should get a full version instead of the lite version.
