View Full Version : connection test failure

hi all,

Since yesterday, my players are no longer able to connect. Aside from windows update, nothing has changed on my computer.

When I try the "Run Test", the connection fails.

I saw that I need to open a port on the firewall, I tried but I don't understand how to do that.

I need help!

thanks!

If it worked before without doing any port forwarding then that isn't the issue. Check that your network is still set to private and not to public (windows updates have a habit of changing that). If that isn't the issue then I'd suggest refreshing your rule in any Antivirus software. In other words delete any existing rule and add in a new one.

alright so it ain't the port, that is ruled out.

I checked and my network is private.

I use Windows Defender. I'm now trying to see the rules that you are talking about.

Windows Defender would be my bet for the problem. You may find a bunch of rules in there for FG. So delete them all and create a new one.

I better let it go for tonight, I'm way too frustrated for this.

thanks Zacc

I had to port forward 1802 to get it to work.

I was having a similar issue. My network had been set to public for some reason. I changed it to private, it still didn't work for a minute, then suddenly it started connecting again. Maybe it takes a little bit to refresh. I have a software firewall through Norton Internet Security ( it allows FGexe, FgUpdater exe, and something else FG related) and a hardware one through my wireless gateway ( XFinity ARRIS TG1682G ). Never had to do the port forwarding though.

hey Sgain, you did it in the windows firewall or on the router? honestly, I do not know how to do that. I'm still looking.

You set ports in your router. Did you manage to set rules in Windows Defender?

Hi Kardock if you are really pulling yuor hair out and you would like me to look at it remotely with you send me a PM with your email address.

Kardock
March 6th, 2018, 00:59
yes, Def. rules are set. I'm on the phone with my internet provider so they allow me to modify the router settings.

OK, I am in the router. I see an option to forward a port. I'm lost though.

what do I need to set into these options?

Inbound Port
Type
Private IP Address
Local Port

thank you all for your help!

I believe I have correctly set the port forwarding but I still have a connection failed.

could it be something else?

thank you all for your help!

Inbound Port is 1802
Type is TCP
Private IP Address you can get from your FG Client
Local Port is 1802

OK that is what I have on the router, so I guess the issue is somewhere else. I'm attaching a printscreen on my port forwarding.

thanks!

Let's work out what your exact network setup is like.

From a command prompt, type the following: tracert 8.8.8.8 and post the results here.

This is the issue - you have another network device at hope 2 between you and the actual Internet. How many devices do you have in your house? Do you have a modem/router then a WiFi access point? Or just a single device?

If you have a single device, then your ISP is sharing public IP addresses with multiple customers, which is becoming a common practice. Unfortunately, this means that you can't do port forwarding in this setup. You'll either need to get a dedicated IP address for you from your ISP or use a VPN solution like Hamachi or PureVPN.

If you have multiple devices in your home, you'll need to do port forward from one (10.177.224.1) to the next (at 192.168.0.1 - but it will also have a 10.177.224.xx IP address).

well I'll be damned. I'll check for a vpn.

Its not 100% that this is the case.
I know what the tracert says - mine also goes through one more private network address that is out of my control.

A lot of cable internet providers in particular do this.
The main reason Im suggesting it may not be the case is that in your first post it was working.

FG worked flawlesly for me between day 1 and last weekend. Since I know I changed nothing on my pc or my router, the external reason why it stopped working makes full sense.

I’ll try Hamachi with my players: if that works, I’m good.

Thanks!

A player of mine has installed hamachi and succesfully connected to my FG. Problem solved, frustration level went down, all is now good.

Thank you all for the help.

Now game on!

I have the same problem (connection test failed) tonight using FG on my laptop.
I don't why, Windows 10 change my network status from private to public. All i had to do, after many tests, was simply enter in network properties and click on private again. 30 seconds and FG works like a charm.
What i still don't know is the reason Windows 10 made this change in my network.

EDIT: It can happen that, after close FG, the failure of the connection test persist. Simply go in network property, click on public, wait 2 seconds, then click again to private. The connection test should be succesful, load campaign and play without problems... at least until next time you start FG. It seems this trick works.
