View Full Version : Games Questions During Play 5E

We just tested out a D&D 5E game, and I have a few questions based on my player feedback:

1) The hotkey table at the bottom of the screen is not saved from once session to another. Is this right, or am I missing a setting?
2) The color wheel for changing your dice color didn't seem to work for 2 of my 3 players. Do they need to load any specific module to allow it to work?

Thanks

The quick bar settings are supposed to be saved for that campaign from one session to the next, on an individual player by player basis.

The color wheel for changing dice colors works without any additional extensions or module loads. Your players do have to have already opened up a PC though, otherwise there is no established color to change; the PC can even be a bare bones blank starting template.

Thanks for the comment on the dice color - I will let my players know they need to have a PC opened up. As for the quick bar, I routinely open the same campaign, add quick bar shortcuts, but they disappear the next next time I open a campaign. Any thoughts you can with on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check to make sure your campaign itself is being saved. If your hot bar is not saved, then you have an installation/configuration/folder permission problem or you have an extension loaded that is not working.

Note that the hot bar is campaign specific. So each campaign will have it's own set.

Test a new campaign with no extensions and let us know if the hot bar settings are still not being saved.

type /console into chat and leave that window open.
see if anything is being written to it.

I typed console and got no messages. I also created a new campaign with no extensions, saved a quick bar item, closed it and then reloaded the campaign (with no extensions again), and it is gone.

What directory is your campaign being saved to? If you go to settings and find out your data directory, you may need admin privileges to save to that directory

Go to the campaign data directory - quickest way is to click the "Folder" button at the top of the maps/images data list window. Then go up one level and then into the usersettings directory.

Delete the hotkeys_host.xml file and close FG. The file should be recreated.

Then open the campaign up again and add some hotkeys. Close the campaign. See if the timestamp of hotkeys_host.xml has changed to when you just exited FG.

Load the campaign back up and see if the hotkeys are there. If not, please attach the hotkeys_host.xml file from this campaign to the thread here.

I tried this, but the links still do not show up. I have closed and relaunched the same campaign a number of times now. When I close the program down and then open the initial launch window, look for the file you ask for, it is not there now.

Hi Furio74 if you create a new story entry and then lose and open FG is the new story entry there?

Hey Damed, no, it does not. As another note, I am running this on a Mac, and seem to be getting this notification message as well (when I launch any campaign). Please see attached.22436

Make sure that the FGdata section in settings is pointing to where your data is actually being stored and that you have full read/write permissions to that entire folder structure. Your data is not being saved which suggests that you don’t have read/write permission at that location.

I have read/write permissions for the entire folder structure, but I am not sure what you mean when you say "Make sure that the FGdata section in settings is pointing to where your data is actually being stored"? Where is the FGdata section in the settings?

This is going to be different on a Mac.
Something looks screwy with your permissions.
If you would like me to have a look at your settings remotely with you send me your email via PM

I'm guessing you're closing the FG window using the standard Mac windows controls?

If so, don't do that - data is not saved correctly (as you're seeing). Exit FG via the right-click menu on the FG desktop.

This info would have helped identify the issue much quicker.

In future, please let people on the forums know of any/all issues you're running into, even if you think it isn't important, it might be - and also please mention if you're using a Mac, as things are different. Thanks. :)

Wow! That worked, man, thank you Trenloe (and everyone else on this thread for your patience!).
