Just curious why these are available on Roll 20 and not on Fantasy Grounds it is an official WOTC product.

Interesting observation. It will be interesting to hear.

I suspect the answer will be in part because FG is not setup to use map tiles, a map of 8x8 squares (I don't know what size these actually are) or such is not very useful in FG.

I wasn't impressed with their quality. I don't think we are missing much.

I emailed the FG team about that a few weeks ago. Since maps do not support multiple layers, map tiles in general are not offered for purchase. I hope I am not totally mis-quoting the FG team’s reply. I expect that layers will eventually be a part of the basic package, so maybe we will see these in the future.

Isn’t there a layers extension that would make it possible to use map tiles, or am I imagining that?

Their is, but it is a community extension. I wouldn't expect any official products sold that require a community extension.

I think one of the FGU demo's shows the use of tiles. So, maybe when FGU is released.

I don’t know how complicated the extension is, but it would be great to see layered maps in the core ruleset and map tiles in the store before FGU. But of course I can respect the devs judgment on these things.

FG currently can't handle any kind of layering even with the layers extension. To work with the layers extension the tiles would need to be made into tokens; massive memory hungry tokens.

If you own tiles from Roll20 you can download them, place them in something like gimp or photoshop, and create a map to import as a graphic

Not always, it depends on the particular product. This one states "These tiles are for use with the Roll20 platform only, and are not available for download."

All that makes sense, I only glance but I thought I saw besides the tiles, maps with the tiles in Roll 20 but maybe I am mistaken. I could always buy and scan the actual tiles. In fact i think I have a bunch of the original sets I could do that with.

I hope that I'm still alive when FG for Unity is released and it has a feature for making maps with tiles. One of my biggest issues in DM in my style which is often spontaneous is maps.

@Danimal66 - still have a look at the enhanced images extension here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20231-Enhanced-Images-(layers)-for-FG-3-0-CoreRPG-(and-rulesets-based-on-CoreRPG)

And an example of what you're looking to do here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20176-A-slightly-better-drawing-mode&p=168266#post168266 Just be careful with the PNG file size (reduce to minimum with apps like pingo/pinga) and the token resolution - go with something like 50 pixels per 5 foot.

Just be aware of the limitations and gotchas lists in posts #1 and #2 of the extension thread - for some the limitations outweigh the advantages of the extension.

Example from the above linked thread:

Oh that is nice, thanks so much. I own CC 3 and all that package but I just suck as making maps and the time it takes to get good at those programs I don't have. I've tried others like Dunjini and didn't like it.

Having nice quality tiles to make maps with is my ultimate goal. Just to have a bunch of maps to plop down. For example I'm running Tomb of Annihilation right now and want maps for encounters in the jungle or on the rivers or in the hills. Yes I scour the internet and find them but I'd love to be able to create what I want. The players get tired of seeing the same maps over and over for encounters.

Someone told me about Dungeon Painter Studio but it has mixed reviews on Steam so I haven't bought it.

Have you checked out the Map Making Software Summary post here on the forums? Though I love CC3+, it's not for everyone. Lots of different programs to choose from. Should be one that fits you.

I assume that your searches found these maps (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?40025-Tomb-of-Annihilation-Maps&p=353714#post353714) specifically drawn up for ToA?

Yes I found those last night honestly. Plan to use a few in my next session.
