Data Sharing Across Multiple Devices Best Practices?

Hello all -- I'm a new FG owner, and am about to start working on my campaign. I'd like to be able to work on the same data set on my laptop, Wacom tablet, and desktop computer. Can I just store the data in Dropbox? Is there a better way to do this?

Welcome to the forums loydb!

The strong recommendation from the FG community and developers is *not* to store live FG data on Dropbox or any similar live sync/backup solution. Quite a few users have reported data corruption in their FG files as live sync apps don't handle files that get regularly updated well.

The best approach is to manually (or via a script) backup your FG date from one computer to a location in Dropbox, and then manually download from that location to your other computer/s.

Interesting, thanks. This is the first I've heard of Dropbox having issues with XML files -- are you sure they weren't trying to edit it on multiple devices simultaneously? Anyway, a .bat file is easy enough to setup up, thanks.

Don't think of it just as an "XML file" - it is the main FG database, which FG constantly accesses and updates. It needs 100%, contention free access to that file. DropBox and other sync apps can mess with that access and cause data corruption. Quite a few users have had it, and they aren't using the data on multiple devices.

I use AllWaySync to sync my campaign folder to dropbox on each machine. It auto syncs every logon/logoff, or can do on a schedule, etc.

It might be old school but I just use a USB stick. Only takes a minute or so (admittedly I dont have a ton of campaigns or mods etc to transfer) and I have never had a problem. Just copy folder to stick and swap between machines.
