Hi, this is what I think he'd look like in 5e at the peak of his powers. I gave him the Champion archetype, along with very protection-focused feats.

I get what you're saying, but he was a mercenary before he ever was a gladiator. He did well in the arena because of the skills he picked up as a mercenary and as an adventurer. :)
