Greetings to all,
Newbie here...Just downloaded the full version last night (thinking at some point after playing some games I'll be doing the DM thing). Great game! Very excited to work more with it.
I did have a question as far as what is PC and not PC about playing with a player/DM that has dial-up still. That person being me. I do have the "Netzero 3G"..."as fast as broadband" they say!!! They are all sniffing glue if they think that is the case. It's a tad quicker than dial-up.
Does everyone frown upon realizing that someone in the group let alone the DM is playing from dial up?
I was just wondering...My area doesn't have DSL yet...and Comcast is too expensive for my taste right now.
Also what are good token packs/monster packs/character etc,...to get as far as being a newbie DM? What are the ones that I should really have before creating modules? I'm still learning the game...so be gentle kids!
What say ya'll?

The only painfull part of the dm being the dial up is that transfering the maps/rulesets is going to be very slow.
You could work to minimize this. Only work with small maps. Or email/host the maps somewhere so players can pull them between games. Use the 'preload' feature a lot.
You might want to avoid using voice comms. Or at least understand its going to be choppy when you transfer a new map to players.
Doing the above should help. While several people have asked about hosting with dialup, I've never seen anyone come back and say what their experiance is. If you try it, let us know how it works out.
As for tokens, the ones I use for now are just ones I make myself from the WoTC monster pictures. Fouruglymonsters.com has some tokens available. There were links for more as well if you hunt around here some.
Good luck!

Thank you kindly, Earl for your thoughts! I will definately try these things!
Do you scan the WOTC monster pics from the books? Or is there online pics you use for the tokens?
Thanks again!

DevinNight makes very good custom tokens, $2 each. You can also take a look at Four Ugly Monsters (https://www.fouruglymonsters.com/)' website to buy some token packs or download some freebies.
(I'm making a lot of money on those commercials, yay!)

I start at www.d20srd.com. Click on the monster link. Click on the monster I need, then click at the icon at the top to pull up the link to the picture.
Right click and save to your pc and edit at will. I put a copy into the images directory so I can show it when the players get to that beasie. Then I copy a pic of the creatures head and make a 50x50 picture that I use as the token.

Another great resource is the gallery at the Wizard's (https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/ag) site. Go to the book containing the monster in question and download the image.

I think that is where the d20srd links too. Its somewhere on the wotc site.
If you find a picture in a wizards book you like you can usually find the art work online at wotc.
