Hi everyone! I'm new to FG. As in just purchased an Ultimate License, every single Devin Token pack and the D&D Complete Bundle - I tend be an "All in” type. However, it also has an overwhelming disadvantage, which means, I truly have no idea what I am doing.
I DM 5e, but FG is a whole new ballgame for me. I’m very excited to start doing practice runs to understand the mechanics, but right now I’m just trying to figure out tokens. How should I set up my token folders? Should I categorize them and put them all in the host folder with subfolders? Set them up in categories not within FG, but in My Documents and then add them into the host with subfolders based on my campaign/modules? I just don’t know where to start and I’m looking for advice from any of you fine veterans willing to help me and my utter cluelessness. Thanks so much!

Welcome :)

Set them up as token modules. You will have problems (due to legacy architecture issues) if you try and install all those tokens and your clients/players will have performance/stability problems.

Here are two threads that talk about creating them
- https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?21396-How-do-I-create-a-Token-Module
- https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?21707-Creating-Token-Modules

There is lots of other stuff for you to learn too, and lots of help here on the forums and YouTube to get you up to speed. I can also suggest the FG College, https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?40020-Join-Fantasy-Grounds-College-Learn-Fantasy-Grounds-learn-D-amp-D-and-then-play!

Hi Ishanks, and Welcome! to the Community,

If you haven't done so already, let me encourage you to take a look at some of the great Tutorial Videos available on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (and on YouTube). Damn's are good, as are Xorn's, and people seem to like mine as well (mine are also available from the links in my sig, below).

Start with the ones on the CoreRPG, because the CoreRPG forms the foundation of just about all the RPGs we play with Fantasy Grounds - so by learning how to use FG with the CoreRPG you'll learn about 80% of what you'll need to know to play any RPG with Fantasy Grounds. Once you've gone through the CoreRPG Videos you can then go on to Videos about your chosen RPG.

When you get familiar with the basic Fantasy Grounds product the next step is to check out some of the Extensions (Plug-Ins) for FG, such as the DOE: Sound, DOE: Locations, DOE: Weather and DOE: Organisations Extensions (to name a but a few - and a Shameless™ Self Plug).

And keep on asking questions - we're a pretty friendly lot here, and we love answering questions.

Cheers

Welcome lshanks76
My best advice for new GMs on FG is... slow down. You cant possibly learn the whole system without running lots of games. So start simple, get on top of character generation and running combat. Let everything else come when you are ready... and if you have bought all those modules Id do the following:
activate PHB, MM, DMG and whatever single adventure you are going to run.
does it need any extra tokens? if so add only those tokens you need.
share the PHB
nothing else until you feel you are ready for more...

Thank you so much. This is a great starting point! Which is really what I needed.
