View Full Version : No luck hosting a campaign

Hello,

I have an Airport Extreme router, I use Windows 10 and I have a full license of the game. The other player I'm testing with also has a full license. Their computer was on my network for the initial test.

A “test” of the connection fails inside the FG app, and attempt to connect by the other player fails as well. I have created a port service on my router that opens up port 1802 using IPv4 (I also tried IPv6) in the Airport Extreme utility.

I’ve read the Apple product instructions for port forwarding, and information on the fantasy grounds forums. I even connected the DM host machine to the internet via a mobile hotspot (so a different network from my home one), with the same failure. Finally, I asked the player to try another network, and still no luck.

I’m out of ideas on how to expose FG on this computer for access to other players. Need assistance asap.

Thank you,

Talyn

And for FG, leave it on IPv4.

Also make sure your antivirus (including Windows Defender) is allowing FG as an exception, or add FG to the whitelist, whatever term your AV uses.

Please post the output of a tracert 8.8.8.8 command.
As Talyn suggests it is IPv4 only, it is TCP 1802 only and your local firewall could be impacting also.
Check your Network connection says Home or Private and not Public.

Hi Damned,

Here's the output from the tracert 8.8.8.8 command

Question, would the DNS addresses matter? I am using the OpenDNS addresses instead of my ISP's DNS server addresses. Didn't believe it mattered, but thought I should mention.

I also sent the following screenshots to support, they requested screenshots of the test screen and the Airport Extreme's screenshot.

I realized my screenshot shows port forwarding set for IPv6, I have tried both IPv4 and IPv6.

DNS address is definitely (Maybe?) going to matter. IPv6 will never work since FG can't use it.

One of the gurus will be alone to actually help out. This one is beyond me :)

Ok, for grins I removed the openDNS addresses and reverted to my ISPs server addresses. Still no luck.

Gotta say, it's been about 15 years or so since an app required this kind of network troubleshooting :) I'm out of practice.

They are going to want tracert for IPV4 and conventional DNS.

I reverted to my ISP's DNS server addresses (took out OpenDNS addresses) and the output for a tracert is above (responding to Damned's reply on that)

Hi mate - sorry I missed it. I will email you and hook up a time over the next couple of days and we should hopefully be able to get your settings right.
