adding characters to exported Mod

Is there any way to save or add pregen characters to mod or is exporting them separately the only way to do it?

You can only do this within the XML. This tells (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Pregens) you the structure and you'll find more details in this post (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?36157-5e-Asset-Templates). You'll need to paste in the XML for the exported characters.
