It's early days, but the beta for Hero Lab Online has been announced at Wolflair, which is a web based version of the app with online storage of your toons and the ability for VTTs to connect to them via an API in real time. Which means players on a VTT could use their phone or tablet to manage their characters, and as the GM interacts with them, their phones would show all the changes as they do. It sounds a little bit like a dream come true for at-the-table groups using VTTs, making it so you could realistically have as little as 2 laptops per table (one for the GM, one to handle map movement passed around between the players). Even if you don't use it that way, the ability for players to update toons on their phone and have them just be there for the next session without jumping through hoops and importing or manually entering changes is, needless to say, compelling.

The trick, of course, would be how much work it might take to put the hooks in FG to make the API work (I am betting it won't be overly easy), and if there is sufficient customer demand to warrant it.

So what do you think? Worth it? Or not?
