We played this past Sunday and were having fun when somehow the dice rolled THREE 20s in six rolls. I saw a thread where its 1/8000

what say you ?

That's the nature of random rolls; it could just as easily have been 1's or 15's. Nothing to see here.

Yes well there seems to be a disproportionate number of 20s. Rather than "complain" I thought I would post it.
Perhaps in doing so it will ensure it doesn't happen again in another few thousand rolls

As a DM I once rolled 3 20 attacking the same player in a fight, told him the dice were trying to kill him that night :-D

It happened in our game last week: one of my Players rolled three nat 20's in a row, did a whole smack of damage to the monster they were fighting, then promptly rolled three crit fails (nat 1s) in the next 5 rolls - it happens, its basic probability, and its the same as rolling any three numbers - but it only has significance because we, as human beings, attach value to that particular set of three number-rolls and don't attach significance to other three number-rolls.

But it is sweet when the dice gods smack a Player up the head like that :p

Players are often superstitious about dice, changing dice if they rolls low too many time (or in FG changing the colors)

Not just Players; GMs too (that's why we've got that secret Die Roller Extension!)

It will happen again in about 8000 rolls (assuming I understand the 'issue').

Given how many rolls are probably done in FG by all of us on a weekly basis, I suspect this will happen to one of us every week.

How come this wasn't with our Alpha Hawks group?

Oh, and this is why every couple of years when I buy a lottery ticket I get numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6. Bugs the bejesus out of people, but it's just as likely as any other numbers.

Proof! Evidence! I knew it! Conspiracy!

Well, it was Ben's (other) character, so... :)

Hysteria! Conspiracy Theories! I feed 'em! (It's all part of being a good GM and playing with the Players' minds! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) :p

Using math (and I am bad at math) I can confirm that the odds of rolling three 20s in a row is 1/8000. Now let's be super conservative and say there are ten games of FG a day, with 5 players, rolling once every two minutes for 3 hours. That is 9000 rolls. So even on the worst of the worst days, you will have 5 people reporting a "freak roll". (Note they were probably in the same game)... bump that up to a more realistic bad day of only 100 FG tables.. that could mean an upwards of 50 people thinking and reporting the RNG is broke.

As I said, my math is bad and someone will come along and correct these numbers. My biggest concern is that people might start circulating rumors that Miranda found a way to game the RNG in order to get more TPKs. As you can see: such freak rolls are natural and regular. My koblads roll 20's 15's and 10's the same way the PCs do. It's their +12 daggers that only seem to make my rolls look like I am out to get the players.

So yeah - your math sux but the rest of the argument is good :)
players * rolls/hour * hours * games
5*30*3*10 = 4,500

And about those kobolds...

Three 20's in six rolls? I've done that. I once had advantage against a creature and three attacks. All three were critical hits (kept the 20, dropped something else each time). Fun times.
