View Full Version : Is it possible: Random NPC Names from Encounters?

I suspect that a mod like this would either be really difficult or down-right impossible to implement, but I figured I'd check in with those in the know before giving up.

I'm running a 5E campaign and whenever I drop an encounter into the CT I like to switch the randomly generated names into something with a little descriptive flavor. Like "goblin raider 7" -> "One Eye", "Loudmouth", etc.

What I'd love to be able to do is to make a mod where I could replace the generic monster name on an encounter tab ("goblin raider") with a title of a story chapter ("[funnyNames]") and have FG give each monster a random name from an ordered list in that story entry (or a note, or where ever I can quickly create a new list for a new mob type).

Mind you, I'm not here looking for someone else to do this for me. I'm willing to put the work in myself. I just don't want to spend a chunk of time on something that's just not possible.

What do you think? Is this doable?

I've seen something similar but can't remember where.

Check this out at post #41 (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?31699-Alternative-to-NPC-numbering-in-combat-tracker/page5). This was never really released or finished but I think it still works

It definitely works and there are some truly awesome combinations that get spat out at times!
