Sorry to be another one of "those" folks, but here I am. I am simply trying to demo FG and finally get back to playing (I have not played since AD&D World of Greyhawk days). I have Dl'd the demo version, opened ports following instructions here and elsewhere (1802), disabled firewalls and AV completely, and still no luck when testing under "Load Campaign". Happy to post any/all info, as I will admit right now it is likely something simple I am overlooking...and Himachi was just uninstalled as it did no good for me either...I did read another thread where they asked someone to run the following and post results, so I'll do that below...and going form desktop to router to modem, opened ports on both modem and router...

Welcome to the forums! First off, if you have the demo version (free) downloaded, then you can join a game but you can't "host" a game so there is no need to open your ports. If you want to try the software and host a game with friends over the internet, then you might wan to try the ultimate license for a month and anyone with a demo license can connect to you. Hope that helps!

Thx Gwydion! I thought it may be related, which is why I included that info about being the demo - but I don't need that to run the sample campaign either? Appreciate the help, going to go quietly slink into the shadows and see what i can screw up next ;)

In full disclosure, I jumped right into the ultimate license when I started, but you are correct. I believe at the launch screen of fantasy grounds you can select the 5e sample campaign from the "select campaign" window and then click on "start" at the bottom right and it should load. No need to run the connection test. Keep us posted. Oh, and believe me, I have stories to tell of what I "screwed up" when I first started with fantasy grounds. I took down the internet in my house for a weekend. Family was not happy with me.... :)

As an aside, your traceroute seems to indicate you have two routers performing NAT (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1). If this is the case (for example you have equipment from your ISP that's 192.168.0.1 and your own router at 192.168.1.1) then you'd have to do two port forwards--one in your ISP's router forwarding port 1802 to the WAN port of your personal router (probably 192.168.0.2 or something), and then a rule in your personal router forwarding port 1802 to your computer's IP.
One way to confirm this would be to get into your router (192.168.1.1) and look what it says is it's WAN IP. If it's 192.168.0.something then the next hop up (192.168.0.1) needs to forward port 1802 to that WAN IP. Hopefully this is equipment you have access to (ISP-provided gateway router equipment) and not something upstream from you that you can't get into.
If it is upstream somewhere then your only options would be to contact the ISP and see if they could configure port forwarding to your router's WAN IP or use a VPN solution.

Thanks. I believe the ISPs modem CAN act as a router, but we do not utilize it because, frankly, it sucks. I have configured both (I believe) as you stated, but will check again. There are other ports for other games, etc I have done this for before, but a few of those had some issues at times also. Appreciate the help!

Yea, so on the device at 192.168.0.1 you need to port forward port 1802 to 192.168.1.1. And then on the device at 192.168.1.1 port forward 1802 to your FG hosting computer. (Just in case you thought both had to port forward to your FG host.)

Well, I'm quite certain I had it set up correctly, but the tests kept failing. So I contacted my ISP, who then stated it was impossible to open port 1802 for a reason that I am certain they kept unintelligible, as I asked them to repeat 4 times. They changed a shitload of settings, and I've now had to go back and reset to default both the modem/gateway and the router, so I'm starting from scratch. Any help would be appreciated, especially anyone who kow how to work within a friggin Arris media gateway. I did look up instructions on the intrawebz, and followed them precisely, but get an undefined error refusing to let me save the results. I can get the router to forward to my puter no problem. BUT, can anyone also confirm if I would get a error message for the test under "Load Campaign" for a deom account alone - ie, I may not need to mess with these at all if I just got a std or ult license (of course, if it was a problem and couldnt use the license, that would suck too)...sorry to ramble, 3.5 hours of talking to useless drones has fried me...

It is possible that you are on a IPv6 network in which case your ISP is correct in that you won't be able to Port Forward. You'll need to investigate a VPN solution such as Himatchi or pureVPN

Good Question. I would have noted if they said that, but just to make sure ran test and got a resounding "no" - 0/10, "Your DNS server (possibly run by your ISP) appears to have no access to the IPv6 Internet, or is not configured to use it"

I don't have any problems with my Arris GAteway, but I don't know what else to tell you. Hopefully one of our network gurus can jump on here and help you figure it out. Not sure what else to suggest :(

dasquared, give this a shot:
- Go to https://www.ipchicken.com. Note what IP address it sees you as coming from.
- Go into the Arris gateway and look at the WAN/Internet IP. Does it match the IP address ipchicken.com showed you?

Yep, both same...

Ok, good.
So, is the Arris gateway the only router you have?
dasquared

No sir... ISP=> Arris Gateway=> Netgear Router => Desktop I actually have desktop connected via ethernet cord, and router gateway connection is also wired (router/wireless for gateway was horrendous)

Alright. So you'll need to get into your Netgear router and look at the WAN IP on that as well.
Once you have that you'll need to do the following:
- On the Arris gateway, you'll forward port 1802 to the WAN IP of your Netgear router.
- On your Netgear router, you'll forward port 1802 to the IP of your desktop.
- On your desktop make sure your firewall is not blocking port 1802. Either allow that port or whitelist FantasyGrounds.exe.
If you provide the model numbers of the routers I can give you some more specific instruction.

So I believe I have done this properly, though I did not change anything on the firewall, as it had already TCP and UDP rules established and active for "E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fantasy Grounds\FGSteamLauncher.exe", all ports, all programs and services. Please correct me if I need to change that in any way. The Arris has a "port trigger" (no listing for forwarding) for 1802. I'm going to stop there and await a reply, as you are referring to WAN settings, and the techs and what I have read to now have all dealt with changing LAN setting on the Arris to set DHCP for the router - using the routers "Internet Port" IP address. Happy to send you screen shots via email if that would help...again, appreciate the help

FGSteamLauncher.exe isn't the program that will be listening on port 1802, FantasyGrounds.exe is (I believe).
The reason we're looking at the WAN settings is because you want to think of it like this: Typically if you had one router, it would forward traffic from the internet (the WAN interface) to your computer (which is connected to the LAN interface). In your case however, the LAN interface on your Arris is connected to the WAN interface of your Netgear. As far as your Netgear knows, the Arris gateway is "the internet," so then the Netgear forwards the traffic coming into its WAN interface (from the Arris) on to your computer's IP.
Once the traffic gets to your desktop we need to make sure the firewall doesn't then block the traffic.

Okay, so I added the ones for the correct fantasygrounds.exe files, all ports, one rule for UDP and one for TCP. Lets go through the gateway settings next please, I THINK the router is ok now, as I have the port forwarding to my desktop IP address listed for both UDP and TCP forwarding...but I am going to need help with the gateway as I do not completely understand its UI and what I should be doing there...

Holy crap I got it. I had to add the DHCP (as I did before) under the LAN tab on the Arris, the also create a Virtual Server along with the Port Triggers (both under separate sections of the Firewall tab on the Arris)...previously, I had not done both, only one or the other...combined with adding the correct files to the Windows firewall rules...I greatly appreciate your help (all of you, but especially midas for this evening) and patience...
EDIT: for accuracy of tab names
