Hey Folks,
I posted on the Syrinscape forum but figured I'd post here also as maybe someone has a clue as to what is going on. A really odd thing has just manifested itself. I've been using Syrinscape with Fantasy Grounds and Teamspeak using VB Audio Cable A for probably about 8 months or so with no issues (followed Dulux Oz's great little tutorial page). Unfortunately, there was a Windows 10 update this past Sunday morning and that I believe has bollocksed things for me. Now, whenever I switch the playback device to the virtual cable, launch Syrinscape and then switch the playback device back to my Speakers, I get no sound from Syrinscape. I do, however, get sound from the Speakers settings with other applications or say launching YouTube. Also, I can get sound from it as normal if I restart and using the default (Speakers) and then launching Syrinscape. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Syrinscape; Realtek Drivers and the Virtual Audio Cable Drivers. I'm kind of at my wits end here. Any help is greatly appreciated...Thanks!!

Hey Dax. I've had problems with windows updates and my sound settings for a while now. So, I can't answer definitely, but after the most recent windows update my sounds were jacked again as well. People couldn't hear me through discord. I have a process now where, after every update I do several things as follows:

1 - Check my sound settings/defaults in all programs (including VM banana, discord or ts3, etc...). Even if you haven't touched them they sometimes reset with a windows update.
2 - Check you antivirus software and make sure syrinscape, discord, etc. are all "whitelisted".
3 - Check windows defender and make sure it isn't on and blocking programs. I swear with the last update when I checked windows defender it was blocking some of my apps and my av program (kaspersky) was blocking things it hadn't previously.

I think now my sounds are all good but I haven't run a completely live session yet, just tested everything again. If these things don't help, let me know and I'll see what other ideas I have given I've worked with sounds a lot. Good luck!

One other thought. I swear with one of the most recent windows 10 updates (might have been the creator edition), some of the A/V cable names were changed in windows. I had to make sure the VM banana was pointing to the correct cables and the progams (ts3, syrinscape, etc.) were also using the correct cables/names. Just one more thing to check! Keep us posted.

For me, i think the issue was that there are two different settings that needed to be changed now. If i recall correctly (not at my pc) i had to now set both a default device and a default comm device....and they went to different locations. Ill send a screen shot when i get hone.

Hi Gwydion and Talen,
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. Gwydion I just saw your email on the Syrinscape boards too - thanks. Well, I've updated the settings in Teamspeak as you were correct they were borked too it looked. The rest of the settings, as best I can tell look fine. However, I'm still having issues. It really looks like the issue may be between Syrinscape and the Virtual Cable A for some reason. I'm not using Voicemeeter - my set up is pretty much as in the Wiki as Dulux Oz set out. When I launch Syrinscape, with my speakers as the Playback Device, it works absolutely fine. However, when I then switch the Playback Device to Virtual Cable A, launch Syrinscape and then once Syrinscape fully loads switch back over to the Speakers for the Playback Device - I get no sound from Syrinscape. However, I am able to get sound normally (say listening to YouTube or something). Something is really odd and I'm thinking it could be a setting somewhere but I'm not sure where to look. :( I appreciate everyone's help with this. Thanks!!

PS: Gwydion - you are correct in that the last Windows update renamed the A/V cables and changed the icon. That's the first thing I noticed and one of the reasons I re-downloaded and re-installed those drivers. The re-installation changed the icons back to what they were previously and renamed it back to "Cable A input" etc where it had changed to "Speakers" with that underneath that name.

One other quick thing and I doubt it is the issue as you used the system so much previously. Just to confirm, do you switch both recording device and playback device to Cable A input and then launch syrinscape? (and then put both recording and playback devices back to default once syrinscape is launched). In case you want to text chat in real time and troubleshoot quickly, here is a link to my discord channel. https://discord.gg/PPP4QWh You can pm me there and we can go through screenshots of your programs, etc.. if necessary.

Actually I think I'm confusing the issue as you should only need to change the playback device. Message me in discord if you want to troubleshoot further...

One other thought and then I'll wait to see if you want to troubleshoot more. I know you've run Syrinscape, TS3 and FG together for 8 mos without issue, but just to make 100% certain, when you are testing to see if you can hear Syrinscape, are you testing it with TS3 loaded up and your voice and sound profiles loaded up in TS3? Its been a while since I've set things up the way you have it, but if memory serves, you will not hear Syrinscape at all except through TS3. So, if you haven't loaded TS3 and you are just testing to see if you can hear it, you won't. Apologize if that is obvious but I remember it catching me a few times.... :)

Hey Gwydion! Thanks so much for the offer - it's greatly appreciated. Yeah, I just need to change the playback device. That said, I did previously download Voicemeeter but never used it going with the 'simpler' set up that followed Dulux Oz's wiki for sound. That said, I've never used Discord and just downloaded it and I'll launch the link you attached. I really do appreciate you taking the time for this!!

Just to close this out, we think we got this sorted last night. Not sure exactly which issue was causing the problem, but we were able to get into teamspeak and test the setup and syrinscape was working for Dax again. Yeah! Fingers crossed it will be good for his next game.

I just wanted to echo what Gwydion said and thank him for taking the time out of his busy schedule last night to work through this. It is greatly appreciated. This morning, after some initial weirdness, it seems to still be working so keeping my fingers crossed!

Hi Gwydion, I am having the same issue as above.
All was running fine, and at some point the sound was getting crap, and now not working at all.

What solution did you guys come up with?
This is a really old topic, but I'm very confused and I'm hoping to find an answer somewhere

Hey. Probably easier to help through discord in real time as it might take me a bit to answer here. If you want, you can join here:
