https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?39682-Thanks-for-all-the-fish/page3

Summary: I unsubscribe threads so I don't feed my anger gland. I & 6 others misunderstood that SRD != PHB.
Because I did not know the importance of Keyword SRD, I was unable to find documentation on the forums about my problem.
Because noone in my group could make characters out of data in the PHB, and because there was no apparent way for a noobie to add customized data into FG, my group & I decided to drop the subscription to FG and wait a year or so to go look at it again.

Long Form:

I'd post this in the original thread, but it's locked.
Normally I'd remain silent, but I think it may be useful for me to explain more about how I misunderstood the Fantasy Grounds advertisement blurb.

First: I unsubscribe from threads. It doesn't do me any good to see people annoyed at me and saying things that make me want to scream at them.
Some folks pointed out I joined months ago but that it was my first post.
That's because I read - I don't ask for help in public because (as proven in the Fish post) it's a great way to have people tell me it's my fault, I'm wrong, I should learn better, read better, etc.
I had pmed several people for help with some fantasy grounds modules and how to run a campaign and stuff. They where all very helpful.

Now, to the sticking point.
Noone ever told me that SRD 5e did not include all the data in the PHB. How was I supposed to know that?

I love playing D&D, Exalted,L5R.

I had never heard or known that there would be this issue. I had no idea that rulesets where different from libraries - Fantasy Grounds support explained that to me.

But I did not even know there was a difference between the PHB and the SRD.
I suspect if FG adds a note to the product page explaining that the 5e SRD data is a subset of the 5e books, you may incur a higher retention rate on people like me.

I'd've bought the books back in january if I had understood that FG Ultimate's SRD was not the same thing as the data in the PHB.

And it wasn't unclear to just myself - my entire gaming group (a lady who does test documentation, a programmer, 2 helpdesk guys, a welder and a grocery store bagger) was mystified and confused. I shared my information with them so they could look at it on their own time and tell me how I was screwing up, and they couldn't make sense of it either.

I'd like to really recommend a note on the product page stating that the SRD data is not the PHB, and does not serve as a substitute for it. Right now - if you are unaware about the SRD stuff like I was - the product page makes it sound like you can hop right in and start playing with just the ultimate license.

I hope my explanation has helped folks be less angry about my post, and a bit more understanding of us Others.

Thanks, and my apologies to all.

P.S. Mod please lock/close/merge. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.

We believe that this is covered by the current product description. While I understand that your assumption was that SRD 5 equals PHB content, I don't see how that could be misconstrued.

From the page description:

Library modules with D&D fifth edition open gaming content found in the SRD 5.

I did (just now) add a link to the SRD 5 mention that takes you directly to WOTC's page though. If someone is unsure what that term means, they can read it directly from WOTC along with the frequently asked questions.
