Hi,
I always fail the connection test to FG.
I have a Savage Worlds campaign to kick off next week so I'm desperate.
I'm not very good at IT so I will really need a step-by-step guide on the different techniques. I've read about opening port 1802, creating an exception in Windows firewall and even forwarding port 1802 to a static IP address but all those solutions look like chinese to me (I can speak French, English and Spanish but my Chinese is very limited).
Can someone help with the very basic techniques to the most complex if they do not work?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the FG forums ChrisLondon.

First thing to do is start a windows command prompt and type tracert 8.8.8.8 and hit <enter>. Then copy the results (info on how to do this below) and paste the results in the forums here. This will tell is what kind of internet setup you have and allow us to point you in the right direction for the next steps.

OK, that's good news - you have a direct connection to the Internet - i.e. your ISP is not sharing your external IP address with anyone else (which is becoming common now).

You'll need to login to your router via a web browser with address 192.168.1.1 and setup port forwarding for TCP port 1802 to the IP address of your GM computer. Info here: https://portforward.com/ Click the "list of routers" link on the left side and then select your make and model of router to find details on how to setup port forwarding. Hopefully, this will be all you'll need - as long as your GM computer has it's network interface set as "Private" and not "Public".

Thanks! I've asked my ISP to create a static IP and forward the 1802 port to it. It should be active by the end of the day today.
Looking forward to testing it tonight.
Again, thank you so much for your help!

So you do not have your own modem and or router? Typically there is no need to get a static IP and have the ISP do anything.

My ISP is moving to IPv6. During the migration they've blocked the ability to create a static IP and forward port through their servers.
However, now, everything works!!!
