View Full Version : Couple o' Questions (Calendar and Tables)

Hi, I've looked through the relevant threads here and elsewhere but I'm still slightly confused about custom calendars.

I managed to make a homebrew-specific calendar about a year ago but I can't find it anywhere now that I'm diving back into FG. By "can't find it" I mean I can't find any files in any FG folder with my custom calendar. I assume this is because I baked it into a custom ruleset which I'm not using now (because I want to keep CoreRPG updated and all that).

I.
So, what I want to do is to indeed make a new custom calendar but is it possible to have this as an extension file - just this one calendar - without needing to "bake" it into the full calendars collection? Or does it have to in the calendars file (and if yes, how does the existence of a custom calendar amidst the calendars of Faerun, Greyhawk et al affect any future CoreRPG updates?)

From what I gather the way to go is to modify an existing calendar, by replacing month names etc. which is what I did last year. But what if I want a "clean" calendar without changing an already existing one? (I hope Unity will have a simple in-game UI for creating a calendar..geez).

Not even sure I make sense here..sorry if I don't. Pls talk to me as if I'm twelve and a half.

II.
The prefilled table generator button is a blessing (if hard to find); just a few clicks as opposed to manually typing hundreds of numbers is a much needed improvement. But how do I build a table that rolls 2d10 or 3d10? 1d365?

1 If you created your calendar by updating the calendar module isn't it still there?

2 drag the dice you need into the dice box. You only need this if the dice roll is non standard such as 2d10. FG will automatically roll whatever the value between 1 and the highest value in the table. So if that is 365 it will roll a d365.

Make the calendar it's own module. Then it doesn't matter what anyone else does.

As I mentioned, I made it for modified (old; as in early 2016) ruleset so I assume I cant' find it from within the reworked campaign file which is in vanilla CoreRPG (most recent update).
I will test your second suggestion, thanks.
Also can't get over that you're one of my NPCs (you avatar..I use it for one of them). You have a starring role in an upcoming session ;)

This sounds like a good plan, but how?
* Edit: To be more clear, I can't just open a new campaign and "build" a calendar from there. Do you mean "Do the same process described elsewhere (that is, modify an existing calendar), upload it into a campaign file, then export just this as a module?

Here are a couple threads with information. Let us know if these don't answer your question.

Ok this is the weirdest thing ever.

I copy the calendars.mod file to an outside folder for tinkering. I tinker.
(I rename stuff, copy/paste, etc etc.).
I remove all the other calendar info (Greyhawk etc.), leaving just the gregoria calendar which I have altered the names of days and months of, and tried to add a few homebrew holidays for good measure.
I save it with a new name, take away the .zip stuffamagog and copy it to the Modules folder in Fantasy Grounds folder.

Then when I fire up FG I get an error ... in the REGULAR calendars.mod file which I copied so I haven't actually touched it?!?!
(

Database Error: A XML parse error occurred processing file Calendars:db.xml - Error on line 94: Error reading end tag.

Calendars...is the unchanged mod file I just copied to somewhere else.
Anyone?

I removed my modified file and now FG doesn't run into that problem. So all right, it recognized some error in my tinkerfile.
OK.. maybe I'll figure it out..

Nevermind I was too quick to cry for help, I'll try figure it out myself. "Line 94" is a solid clue..Lol.

Edit
..aand seems like I managed it on my own. Yay!
