View Full Version : You buy a new RPG. How do you play it on FG?

There are lots of great RPGs out there, and in the age of Kickstarter it seems like more are coming every day. As much as it would be great if every new RPG on KS had a "Fantasy grounds support" stretch goal (I'm looking at you, Alternity 2.0!), that just doesn't happen.

So when you find a new game you really want to try, and your gaming consists of FG rather than a in-person group, how do you go about giving it a whirl over the VTT? And I don't mean the general rule like I am really asking "how do i do this?" I mean you, personally. How much effort do you put into trying to code dice rolls and abilities in Core? How much time do you take with maps and tokens and thelike (assuming the game needs it). Do you run loose and easy with minimal or no automation just like you would IRL or do you try and use FG in whatever capacity you can? Do you even use FG, or do you kick over Hangouts or Skype so you can draw on the white board and roll dice on camera?

MoreCore is quite flexible. That is definitely the way to go for new game systems. You won't have full automation like a fully featured dedicated ruleset, but it saves the hundreds of hours that go into designing somethings like that.

At FG Con 10 on the weekend the following game sytems were run with MoreCore.

Dungeon World
City of Mist
Coriolis
DSR Espionage
Dusk City Outlaws

None of these have automation like 5e or other full rulesets but they are completely playable.
