Hello, I'm kinda new to Fantasy Grounds. I've had the software for a little over at year. I haven't been able to learn how to set up a campaign that doesn't have a pre-made file. So I'm looking for someone how is ether planing to run it or has the files and are willing to pass them onto me.

Well, this is a perfect opportunity to learn. Teach a guy to fish and all. I actually find prepping for a game relaxing and I use it to unwind. I'd be happy to go over the basics of converting an AP into a module with you. It's not as complicated as it seems at first. Just remember to take your time, and move at a pace you are comfortable. I like to watch a tv show while I am prepping, something I can switch to when I need a break for 15 minutes.

First things first, you will need a couple free utility programs. The first program you will need is Acrobat Reader, chances are you already have this one. Acrobat reader has a few perks that will come in handy when your ripping images over a freeware PDF reader. You will also need a program called token tool. which you can find at rptools.net (https://www.rptools.net/downloadsw/). Next is notepad++, at https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.3.3.html. This program allows you to clean up text you're getting from pdfs quickly. It's best used with auto hotkey. Found at https://autohotkey.com/download/. This program lets you use custom hotkeys, which help clean up text. A forum member named Xorn has a thread with a AHK script, at https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?21964-PAR5E-Tutorial/page2. Create a new AHK Script and copy and paste Xorn's script into it, then compile it. When you run it, it allows you to use the number keypad to do things like remove double spaces and line breaks. For the images you will need a program like GIMP (https://www.gimp.org/). You can copy an image into it and then export it as a jpg. If the image has a grid already drawn on it, you can resize the exported jpg with Map Align (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?19813-Map-Align-Utility-to-scale-and-align-map-to-grid), a handy tool created by Valeros. Which lets you set a pixel size for a grid box, like 50. And when you're setting the grid in FG you can set the grid to 50 and it will line up perfectly.

Once you have all of your tools, You can open up the pdf. I like to start by pulling out the images I will be using and making tokens. When you create a new campaign, it creates a file with an images folder in the FG directory. You can learn more about finding and moving that file by watching the tutorials linked to on FG Startup window. But for now, the image file you want is under Campaigns>'Name of your campaign'. When you copy the image from the pdf into gimp and export it. Export it to this file. If it's a gridded map Export it to this file then open it map align and save it back to the file. For tokens, tokentool has a function called screen capture. It creates a little window you can drag onto the pdf, resize and capture the image. You do not have to save to your tokens bag. It's better to save your token into a new file called 'tokens', located in your campaign folder next to the images folder.

Once you have all the tokens and images you want squared away, then you fire up Fantasy Grounds. Read through the pdf and make a mental map of how your story will progress. Open up the Story tab, and make a Campaign Main Group. Then create a new story entry. Label it "0 Table of Contents". Drop links from your main story entries in your desired order onto into this story entry for quick navigation. The number zero keeps it at the top of the alphabetical list. Then start working your way through the text copying from the pdf into notepad++ and using AHK to clean up the text. 0 on the number pad will remove the single spacing, and 1 will remove unwanted spaces. You can also make All Caps words lowercased by right-clicking in Notepad++. Then use control v to copy into FG. When you come to an encounter, create a new encounter and drop the link in the story entry. Pick out your map, and put and link it next to the encounter. Then you can either drag the monster from the beastiary into the encounter or create a new npc and drop it in. If there is treasure, make a parcel and link next to the encounter and map. You can then take the tokens in the encounter and drop them onto the map (after you set the grid).

You can also link story entries onto maps. For instance you're looking at a dungeon map, you can create a story entry for each room and drop a map pin in that room on the map. And when you're players walk into the room you hit the map pin and voila, the info is all there.

To avoid walls of text, break up the text and bold or underline important bits like DCs. You can also create another Story Group called Misc, and create sub story entries to link into main entries. For Example, I am entering Chapter 1 of an AP. And it presents me with 4 parts, I can create a main story entry called Chapter 1 and put in the overview and progression of the chapter. And then create a story entry for each part in detail and link it back into the main entry.

If you need to make a table in a story entry, like a price chart. right-click and create the table, then hit shift tab to make the new columns. And enter to make a new row.

Take your time, address each thing as it comes up. And read through when you're done. Remember you have the pdf still to read from, so you do not necessarily have to enter every single word. Just the parts you need to see quickly. Once you are satisfied, export the module. By opening the library window, and hitting modules in the corner. On the modules window, look for the export button. This will let you choose the name, the thumbnail, and which things you want to export.

To save you some time on Rise of the Runelords, you can find user created maps at https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2i3wa&page=22?Community-Created-Stuff scroll down til you find Digital Mystics post. And a you can find the NPCs at https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?22402-OGL-material-for-use-in-Fantasy-Grounds look for post 5, by Trashkicker. Download and place in modules folder. If its a .zip, rename to .mod.

If you're unsure on how to do something watch one of the tutorials linked on FG main page, use the search function here on the forum, or post the question. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.

No sharing of copyright protected material please.

Having said that, Rise of the Runelords is covered by the PFS agreement detailed here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20244-Private-sharing-of-PFS-scenario-data-available-modules

Or you could wait a few weeks until the official Rise of the Runelords FG modules come out. :)
