HELLO!!!!

So i have been DMing for a very long time and playing as a PC for a lot less BUT... this is an awesome VTT and I am interested if there is a way to shadow a DM while they run a game and see their screen and how they do things. I have watched a fair number of Tuturials and figure the best way is to actually do it or participatein someone doing it and learn that way.

Any ideas if there is a way for me to watch a DM running a game without being a player?

Maybe there is a DM local to me that i could sit with and watch?

Thanks,

Liberty

FGCon. See link in my sig. you could easily drop into games being played throughout that weekend. There's also a number of DMs who stream their games including the chaps at Smiteworks. Links in the Wiki and on the Discord server and Facebook and in the forums.

Hey Liberty, welcome to FG and the community!

Check out the Discord channel (see https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?36377-New-Official-Discord-Server), someone there might be able to help out. Also, you can follow a lot of games from the DM perspective on Twitch.

Welcome to the community. If you are not able to find a DM to shadow, may I suggest how I got started with Fantasy Grounds. Youtube and specifically some really thorough videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80a8xuONrj0&list=PLePiBJtKmjLn5IzhpakEcVqAHoYfezZbe

Are there particular aspects you would like to see in action? Every GM and every system has more or less technical bits going on.
Shadowing a GM is a great way to pick up whats going on.

I would highely recommend watching folks on twitch DMing using FG. I've managed to see a few tricks I didn't know existed ;)

Rob2e is on almost nightly here: https://www.twitch.tv/rob2e

Geoquester is on fairly often as well here: https://www.twitch.tv/geoquester

Rob2e also has a lot of helpful vids on his youtube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuHtXAS9yMqX0PqyGqUKULA) as does Digital Dungeon Master (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzRjU07iEZga5dxZOEpE1dQ)

Both have tutorials and actual play from the DM perspective.

Thank you everyone. I will have to check out discord, more YouTube and will look into twitch stuff too.

Mainly I am a story teller of epic tales no matter the game I can tell a great story. The two systems I run most are DnD 5th and Warhammer Fatansy Roleplay 1-2nd editions.

I currently have the basic non demo version of FG and will be upgrading to ultimate once I know what I am doing.

Hey, welcome to the community, check out my youtube page (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAKOMMoB4KFcnRmlor0mk2sA-dM7aDInk). I GM most of my games. So most of my games (Except for the current Savage Rifts game I am playing in) are from the GM point of view.

So I had a great DM show me a lot of the FG system tonight and it was great but now I need to figure out how to get a successful connection test. I opened my 1802 port for forwarding but still nothing. Grrr

Have you done port forwarding to the IP address of your Fantasy Grounds computer? Just "opening" TCP port 1802 isn't enough, you need to actually setup the IP address to forward to.
