View Full Version : Character Leveling in Pathfinder

Hello all,

Myself and my friends are new to Fantasy Grounds, and we're having some problems with character creation / character leveling. We imported a character from PCGen into Fantasy Grounds and it went pretty smooth.. there were a couple of errors, nothing we couldn't fix. But then we tried to level the character and came up with some questions.. When you changed the character, is anything automated? ( can we add a level of fighter, and the Base Attack Bonus automatically updates? ) If so, how do we do that? Creating and maintaining characters feels wonky to us.

Welcome to the forums gusgus.

Currently, levelling in 3.5E/PFRPG is manual. There is some drag/drop functionality in the upcoming v3.3. ruleset, but you will still always have to make sure that when you level that all of the data is updated appropriately. Fantasy Grounds is not designed to be a character generation tool, but the devs are working on some helper functionality. Note that even in v3.3 just changing a level number won't make any changes.

Yea for the PCGen mention! When the new PF sets start coming I believe Doug (or John) said there will be a little more automation. But not as much as 5e has.

One of the Notes I always include in my Pathfinder campaigns is this Checklist note. It's just a good reminder to walk through the manual process.

Nice checklist but I suspect there is more to it than appears in jpg.

If we are talking about Pathfinder, another great help leveling characters manually is the "Pathfinder: Strategy Guide (https://paizo.com/products/btpy99sk?Pathfinder-Roleplaying-Game-Strategy-Guide)"

That book have saved my bacon countless of times, and makes leveling up a breeze.

I do so hope it will come to FG relatively soon, since it such a great help managing characters.
