Hi I own a standard license of Fantasy Grounds along with the modules D&D Complete Core Class Pack, D&D Complete Dungeon Master's Guide, D&D Complete Core Monster Pack & D&D Lost Mine of Phandelver but I am still learning how to use the software so what I have done is installed a second version of Fantasy Grounds on the same computer as a DEMO account so I can experiment as a DM and a PC. The problem I have is when I goto create a new character in the DEMO version I have no modules to work from? I was hoping to have Player's Basic Rules and Dungeon Master's Basic Rules but they aren't present.

Can anyone tell me how I can go about making a character like I can from my Standard License version with all the bought modules. Many thanks in advance.

Hi, Welcome to the forums!

Not sure if you tried it like this but you need to start your licensed version as a campaign (the DM). Then join that campaign with the demo version (the Player). On the DM side, you would go into the Library->Module to open AND share the PHB. The player can then open their Library->Module and open the PHB. Opening the modules requires either dbl-clicking on the book icon or click and drag it to the left like opening a book and sharing requires the DM to drop the green √ into the slot next to the book.

Once all of that is set, the player can create player sheets with information from the PHB. The "drag and drop" method should work for the player. There's a lot of helpful links to written and video documentation on using FG and building character sheets. Check out the 5E Forum stickies for links to most of the best ones.

Hope this helps.

You can't access purchased material in "Manage Characters" from a demo license.

Are you using "Manage Characters" or are you connecting to a GM session running on the first install? If the latter, make sure the GM has given permission to access the player modules only (Complete Class Pack, etc.). Don't share give the player access to the DMG or MM, this will overload the player instance. See "Module Activation" here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Library#Module_Activation

Also, if you want to see what a player will see, you don't need to install a demo version. Just bring up the campaign as normal, then start a second instance of FG and connect using a hostname of "localhost".

Already suggested to the OP, but they are running on a Mac: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?36957-Playing-At-Home-Including-Fantasy-Grounds&p=323942&viewfull=1#post323942 I'm not sure how to best get the second instance thing on a Mac.

The only way I've managed to get two versions running on a Mac is by using Steam and opening Fantasy Grounds from there then running a second version using Wine

Ok So I have in my DM version of the game the PHB open, but how do I share this with my Demo account player so I can create a character? I don't see any options to allow me to share? I can share maps etc but can't find how to share my modules? Sorry if this is really simple and I'm looking past it :)

Drag the green check mark to the empty circle next to the PHB book icon. Then when the demo player connects to your campaign, it will load the PHB for them.

Well, it doesn't load automatically. The player needs to go into Library->Modules and open it there.

@Elfuthark - I really recommend you watch some of the videos from the Wiki here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Videos

Or work through some of the basic areas in the user guide here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/User_Guides

Most of what you've been asking is covered in these area and gives a good background to FG terms/processes. I'm not saying don't ask questions, but it just seems you're feeling your way through the application interface rather than getting a good grounding in FG concepts and how-to-dos.

Click on the Modules tab in the Library where you originally activated the modules for your campaign, then drag the green button in the bottom right onto the book you want to share with your players. Once shared, the player will see the book in their Library->Modules, but will still need to open it to view the content.

Welcome Elfuthark - you can also make characters as the GM too if you need/want to from the GM screen.
