Dots on character portraits in the Character List

I'm sure this is a really easy one, but my search skills are deserting me.

Three of the characters have black dots on the right border of their portraits, while the other has a red dot. These don't seem to correspond to current hit points or anything else that I can discern - what do these signify? I believe I have seen other colors on portraits from time to time as well (maroon, etc.).

Its the color of their dice, also the color of the pointers they draw on the map. So if some draw a red or blue arrow you can know which player did it.

Players can select their "color" using the color palette on the top right side of the application play area.
