Hey everyone, been lurking around the forums for the last couple of days, reading various posts and trying to get a handle on the software (port forwarding, amirite?!). Thought I would chime in today to introduce myself. I've purchased an Ultimate license and the entire D&D 5e bundle, in the hopes that I can make a memorable campaign for a bunch of my old-school RPG friends. I have possibly the most impressive private collection of 2nd edition material aquired, but 5e is foreign to me, as is FG. I've managed to get into some of the meat and potatoes of the system, and have already had one friend join my campaign and make a character using drag-and-drop from the PHB, and we ran a couple of encounters just to test out combat and actions etc. I have a bizarre schedule, and a new son, so I'm hoping that I might find a one-shot game to get a look at things on the players end, and maybe some more insight into using things from the DM's end, and would also eventually like to transfer manually some of my older material in the FG format for use in my larger campaign. Thanks for reading this, and I hope to see you all around more in the future. Cheers!

Hi WikdJester, and Welcome! to the Community,

If you haven't done so already, let me encourage you to take a look at some of the great Tutorial Videos available on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (and on YouTube). Damn's are good, as are Xorn's, and people seem to like mine as well (mine are also available from the links in my sig, below).

Start with the ones on the CoreRPG, because the CoreRPG forms the foundation of just about all the RPGs we play with Fantasy Grounds - so by learning how to use FG with the CoreRPG you'll learn about 80% of what you'll need to know to play any RPG with Fantasy Grounds. Once you've gone through the CoreRPG Videos you can then go on to Videos about your chosen RPG.

When you get familiar with the basic Fantasy Grounds product the next step is to check out some of the Extensions (Plug-Ins) for FG, such as the DOE: Sound, DOE: Locations, DOE: Weather and DOE: Organisations Extensions (to name a but a few).

And keep on asking questions - we're a pretty friendly lot here, and we love answering questions.

Cheers

HeyWikdJester jump into any one shot you can find - whatever the system. You will find that in most cases you need to apply to games rather than the games coming to you. When its time for yo to run a game you will likely have little trouble attracting players. If you get stuck with the port forwarding or anything else just holler.

Thanks for the replies! I worked out port forwarding a couple of days ago, and I've already watched a good number of your guys' videos. Your efforts are appreciated. On to module creation!
