just want to know why when a monster has magic resistance on its sheet it reads Note: Magic Resist
on its tracker
i put ADVSAV: magic and that fixed it, but its a pain to change it every time a monster is placed on the tracker

Because those are two completely different things.

Odds are if you're seeing "Note: Magic Resist" it very likely says on the monster details that it "Has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects."

EG. The Pseudodragon:

Magic Resistance: The pseudodragon has advantage on saving throws against Spells and other magical effects.

The effect you added however will give it adv on saves against EVERYTHING, like Battle Master Maneuvers and such. This will probably be fine in most cases, as long as you remember to disable it from the CT whenever it has to make a non-magical save roll.

It is as Dracius says. FG doesn't automatically handle resistance to magic since it's a bit of a nebulous thing and ADVSSAV doesn't really cover it. The note on the CT is just that - a note, to remind the DM that this beastie has resistance to magic.
