View Full Version : Stupid Port Question

I know this has been asked 1000 times but I can't make it work and it is the most frustrating thing ever.

I am using a Mac. I have no firewalls up. I have port forwarded 1802 using my ipaddress. And still get the Failure message. Is there a CSR or IT rep for the program that can help me troubleshoot? My other users have it working - but their GM can do it :(

Hey shaunrice - GM or Player?
What is the output of traceroute to 8.8.8.8 please?
Launch Network Utility - You can do this through Mac OS X Spotlight by typing Network Utility, and then clicking the Top Hit.
Click Traceroute.
Enter 8.8.8.8
Click Trace.
Select the results, and then right-click and select Copy or press COMMAND+C to copy the text and paste here.

Good to see we ended up in the same place looking for answers Shaun lol. Sandra here. Just fyi, I did a bit of digging and looked into yours, mine, Tam's and Dave's ports and while all of ours appeared as "filtered" (which apparently has something to do with firewalls? I dunno), yours appeared to be "closed". Didn't figure this out till after we'd disconnected.

Hi Rylerion and welcome - is shaunrice a player or GM? Please note that the Connection Test is only shown on the Load Campaign and New Campaign screens - only GMs need to do the connection test.

He's our GM, and the only one of us with a real account, the rest of us are all playing freebee. He was connected at one of our other player's houses (his computer, her house) Saturday morning with my boyfriend and me (we're in the same house on the same Wi-Fi but different machines). He was able to open the campaign and we futzed around for about an hour or so without much of an issue. Tonight, no one could seem to get anything to work.

hey Rylerion - its likely that the UPnP worked at the first location and didnt at his home.
shaunrice please supply the traceroute output and also are you connected on WiFi or via a LAN cable?
What type of internet connection do you have?

I don't suppose, while I have you here 'n all, that you know the procedure as far as having a port open on a router that has two computers using it? Like...I've opened 1802 for my IP address but it won't let me open it for my boyfriend's because 1802 is already open.

I'm useless when it comes to networking just so ya know.

Hi Rylerion - you cant. If 1802 points to the other computer it cant point to yours. And vice versa. Are you both going to GM? Only the GM needs 1802 pointed to their computer.

We figured it out a little later into the night. I hadn't realized that only the GM needed the open port, not all participants. Still on a steep learning curve here.

The info you requested is below. Thank you for your help. This is all literally over my capacity (lol) - I am the GM - currently on wireless connection. It absolutely did work while I was at another player's house. I had a few connect to me, etc - but when I brought it home, I couldn't get my connection here to register a success.

See those first two hops (and possibly the 3rd)...
You have to port forward the cable modem to the router and the router to your computer.
Pm me your email address if you cant get it working.
