Welcome to the forums, Nick! You will find us a friendly lot. This thread (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?22089-Fantasy-Grounds-Unity-engine/page22&highlight=unity) discusses Unity quite a lot, but there is no announced release date, and anyone who says otherwise is just speculating. For a few years now, we've kind of been hoping "sometime this year," but it will be out when it's out. Don't hold your breath.

Just dive into what we have. There is nothing else that comes close in helping you do an immersive game experience.

The official answer is to buy Fantasy Grounds for what it has today, not for what we might build in the future.

Currently, we have been backporting features originally slated for the Unity version of Fantasy Grounds into the current version, so all the goodness is continuing to be added to Fantasy Grounds over time.

Also, we are only publicly committing to full backward compatibility for the Unity version, due to the replacement of all major libraries used by the client (networking, image processing, memory management and more).

That is awesome. I am interested in seeing what comes of the Unity version but I am heartened to know that the current platform has not been lagging due to a focus on the next big thing.

Yes, that's the decision we made. We wanted to continue bringing new features as well as new DLC while we are working on the next generation platform. It slowed down the development of the Unity release pretty dramatically, but we didn't leave anybody hanging. That's why we always tell people to buy FG for what it can do today.
