View Full Version : Curious about putting magical effects on weapons (ie, a sting sword)

Hello all, I am curious if there is a way to add magic effects to custom weapons so that fantasy grounds incorporates them like a spell.

Example: Psuedodragon's Sting attack
(1d4 + 2) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 hour. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the target falls unconscious for the same duration, or until it takes damage.

Custom Weapon: Sting Sword
(1d6 + Dex) piercing damage

Now I would like to add the rest of the effect to the sword. So that I could just drag over the saving throws and cause the effect as needed.

I am not sure if I wrote this out correctly (it's 3 am :p), but if you understand what I am trying to do, then I would love to hear your ideas. Thanks!

Sidenote: If you are fighting a Psuedodragon and the character fails the Con save, then fantasy grounds just makes them unconscious. It skips the poison syntax and I am pretty sure the whole needing to fail by 5 or more is ignored as well. Is there a way to rewrite this with proper syntax that FG can identify? Thanks again

Hi Syn and welcome to FG and to the Community.

You can't add such properties to a weapon directly; you'll need to do that using an effect on the player. More information on creating weapons and effects here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/5E_Item_Sheet) and here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/5E_Effects)

As it so happens the Pseudodragon's Sting attack is currently broken but it is fixed in the next version (3.2.2 currently in test) and this should be rolled out shortly. Note however that FG does not calculate failure by 5 or more (it records only success or failure) so you'll need to do that bit manually
