View Full Version : visual aids for commission

I really have no idea if this idea is any good, or if there is any need for a service like this.
I would be more than happy to create visual aids of objects, rooms, and buildings for DM's. I wouldn't do maps (well ok I would, but there are a lot of programs and people that can do that) All I would need would be rough sketches or text descriptions.
Samples of my work can be seen at www.immortalnights.com/visuals
(give me a couple minutes to set this up)
So is there a need for a specialty service such as this?
thanks.

That's some pretty good stuff. What app are you using to create them? Er, unless by telling, you are going against what you want to do. Though owning a paintbrush doesn't make one a good artist :)

it depends a lot on the subjectmatter.
I use Carrara for the 3D stuff, Photoshop and Illustrator for some of it as well.
I realize that there are a ton of creative and even artistic people that play these games. So the fact may be that the DM's make their own visual aids or know some one who can.
However if there happens to be an unlucky few who would like some art done, I may be able to help.

Okay, the dire tuba may be the best dang thing I've ever seen. :)
Like I said on the AD site... I'll be in touch when I can find the time to work on my own content.

I have been busy with 2d tokens but I broke away to do some 3D work this weekend.

Thanks Crusader.
Here is a teaser of the tokens I am working on.
I am still trying to figure out relative scale and still keep them looking attractive at smaller scales.

Those look awesome! I'd buy a set of those, if they are set up in multiples and numbered for larger encounters :)

Thanks.
This is my plan.
To release some free ones.
To release some in conjunction with additional content (more coming soon on this).
To create player specific or group specific tokens for a small paypal donation.
And to sell packs of them, I would hope to create enough variations that you wouldn't need to have numbers on them. For instance I made six unique kobolds, then made a set that had variations in color, If I made variations in weapons and some other changes I could have 24 Kobolds that all looked different.
The big problem right now is finding a size that allows the token to still look nice but not throw FG into a fit of crashes. I'm hoping the next big version of FG handles graphics and file transfers better.

I think these look fantastic. I'd certainly buy some, though I would prefer them un-numbered. I usually number 'enemy' tokens by dragging a number from a prepared story sheet to speed things up.

I'm sure his wording above is only to track file names. I've seen his tokens 'in action' and they completely blend into your backgoround so the only part of the token you see is the figure and the shadow. Great stuff.

Yeah I saw them in action also... DM liked them so much he wanted to show off the orc tokens to us... though with the number he put on the map I believe he liked them too much...

Yeah but that was only because the caster decided to go ninja and kill them... We really got to get him to play in the front row more often with the rolls he was getting.

I want those tokens. The building and item drawings are cool but I have got to have those tokens. I frankly don't care how bad it FUBAR FG I need those tokens. I can't tell you how many times during a session we say "who's the green token?" or "sorry I moved the wrong one". At the very least I beg for the character tokens. At most in the sessions I play there won't be more than 6 of those on the screen at once.

Devinight,
I just want to say thanks for creating my party some great tokens. They fit perfectly on the board and add that extra touch of realism. Please keep me and the community informed of your progress on npc token packs. I was really impressed by how you talored each token to the characters we have created. No more sessions of "oops I moved the wrong token, sorry", nor does the DM have to name each token that gets placed it is obvious now.
Thanks,
