View Full Version : Create custom class?

After buying Fantasy Grounds and some 5e books, it seems that the 5e material is encrypted and cannot be modified or built upon? Is this correct? I haven't tried to make a module yet, but is it even possible to make modules for custom classes for this ruleset? If anyone has made any custom classes for FG 5e, can anyone post a link to such a class? I have not been able to find any so far.

Also, how can one make a module to alter the base 5e rules behavior if we cannot see what those behaviors are? If, for example, I wanted to change how something is calculated or implement some houserule? D&D5e is *heavily* built on players building their own stuff, but it feels like due to copy protection, this ability has been crippled in Fantasy Grounds. Am I just way off base here?

Welcome osunightfall.

To create a custom class you have a number of options: enter the data manually into the PC as you go (quickest, but no automation), create the class in PAR5E (creates a library module, need to learn the PAR5E framework) or manually create the module from XML (most difficult).

Info on PAR5E here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27297-Par5e And another 5E parsing tool: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?30560-Fantasy-Grounds-5E-Parser

You can get an example class module (the UA Ranger) through this thread: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?35461-Unearthed-Arcana-Module

Regarding the 5E rules behaviour - this is in the 5E ruleset, which is not encrypted and is available in <FG app data>\rulesets\5e.pak. Info on rulesets here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?19033-Modifying-the-3-5e-PFRPG-ruleset (it's written for 3.5E but it is completely relevant to 5E - just replace 3.5E with 5E).

Ah, fantastic! Thank you for your extremely helpful reply. I will set to work at once. It feels good to know that after my group and I dropped a lot of money on this program, some of our fears are unfounded.

Thanks again.

One word of advice, don't wait until you get all your house rules and custom classes ready before you start using FG. As Trenloe says, you can do all your non-standard stuff manually.

Welcome, and let us know how else we can help.

Totally used it yesterday. Players are on the fence as to the automation, but as a DM the advantages are ridiculous for running games quickly and cross-referencing information.
